So I returned my envy 14 with i5-580m (dual core, switchable graphics) a week ago, and getting my replacement i7-740qm (quad core, no switchable graphics) this week sometime. I was wondering if I could save myself the 4 hrs burning recovery discs since I still have the 6 dvd's that I created from my previous envy 14?

They should have the same model number (1100t-CTO), but has different processor (580m vs 740qm), graphics card/mother board (I think), also I don't know if the windows activation is built into the recovery disc (so my discs still contain the windows activation from the first envy)?

Has anyone gone through 2 or more envies and felt lazy to create a second set of recovery dvds?

The main issue I see is the video driver install (switchable graphics).

Why did you go from the i5 to the i7?
Switchable graphics is a big plus.

Yes but depending on what you use the computer for of course.

    couple reasons:
    1) i was sending it back anyways because of a screen hinge issue

    2) i5-580m was a little sluggish when lots of things are happening in starcraft 2 even when i turn the graphics down, quad core *should* be better?

    3) i tested the battery life using discrete vs integrated, and decided that since i can get 3.5+ hrs on discrete card for light to medium use (4.5hrs with integrated), it was enough for my purposes

    4) overclocking 5650m on i5 envy 14 was not ideal, going to try to see if i'll have any better luck with the i7 version of the 5650m
