I am looking into getting an Envy, but I'm not sure whether to buy now or potentially wait for an updated Envy 14 with Sandy Bridge to come out. I know the Envy 17 refresh is supposed to be happening in March, but I have not heard a single word as to whether or not the 14 will be done at or around the same time. the reason I'm apprehensive about buying an Envy now is because I want the i7, but the only thing I'm hearing about it is the horrible battery life since it doesn't have switchable graphics. With the new Sandy bridge CPU battery life should be better with switchable graphics available, and the CPU performance will be much improved. I plan on buying an Envy 14 and then installing a new Intel G3 SSD once it becomes available, but I'm not sure on whether to buy the current model envy or wait for a refresh that might not happen. I'm not sure what to do about this since I haven't heard a single work about an Envy 14 refresh, is it worth the wait for the new Sandy Bridge model, or should I just buy one now when there are good deals on the current model. Any advice?

I am on the market for a notebook myself and fully recommend waiting it out. The performance boost of Sandy Bridge Core i7 series is highly worth it (even the lowest end 2GHz option outperforms the more expensive last generation chips), there will likely be some design improvements (whether they are small or not), HP could potentially add Blu-ray (finally), and so on. Might as well just wait it out even if the Envy 14 isn't updated until April. I see no sense in plopping down $1000+ now only to have it be currently outdated and then replaced in a few months.

Has anyone heard anything about an Envy 14 refresh? B/c I'm wondering if I should even wait and just go with the current i7.

There have been rumors of a refresh but nothing tangible. Buying now is always risky but I got mine for $850 a few months ago, core i7, 4gb ram, brightview display (ya i know). So I'm okay with them coming out with something new. I can use my laptop until the new ones go on sale a year or so from now.

no word yet on refresh. But... they've already announced refreshes for the G-series, the dv6, the dv7 and the elitebooks. I don't think it's crazy to predict something will be announced for the envy 14 in the next few weeks. That might still mean you'll be waiting a few months though. Product announcements and the actual releases are usually weeks apart.

sigh I know how you feel, I want to buy the envy too but I'm not sure if I should hold out or not. Is the brightview really that bad?

I lean towards holding out for a refresh b/c of the recent updated CPU in the Envy 17 3D. It doesn't make sense that they would update only half of their products in the Envy series, I would like to think in the next couple of weeks an announcement about the Envy 14 will occur. And hopefully by that time the new Intel 3G SSD will be out, which can take full advantage of the new motherboard that should accompany the Sandy Bridge update.
