different voltages prob.

Thanks HP for deceiving users into thinking that because the Envy ships with an 8 cell battery it will have longer battery life than its competitors which use 6 cell batteries, not to mention the estimated 6 hour battery life they originally posted on their website.
-
-
check the voltages on the battery. mah is not everything. A higher voltage would be giving you longer run times anyway.
-
8 cells achieve higher voltages.
Just like when you add up regular batteries, simple physics. -
i just bought an i5 unit with the radiance display and the standard battery. after a full charge, the battery status indicator in the taskbar is saying that i have only 1 hour and 10 minutes of usage left. this is with the laptop using the power saving gpu option. does this mean that there's something wrong with the battery? or is the indicator not working properly? i suppose i could just let it run down and see how long it takes, but i'd prefer not to do that.
thanks,
cc -
the indicator is the problem, there are 2 or 3 threads about this
-
cloud, I have the same problem. There are a bunch of us over in the battery log thread. It seems though that I still get around 3-4 hours even though the Windows 7 time estimation is off..
-
anyone knows where i can buy a new one? been searching the net but nothing not even hp have them on stock ~.~

HP Parts store
search part #602410-001
add it to your cart and buy it.
HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts -
Edit
Never mind: I included the #, which caused the search error. -
-
You need to search for "602410-001" exactly how it's typed in the quotation's.
-
My mistake, I included the "#", which resulted in the error.
Is the $7 difference in list price for "used" and "new" batteries? I'm surprised it's this cheap in the parts store when compared to $200 that was quoted during my envy purchase. -
-
-
I'm selling mine for $200 shipped if anyone is interested, since the parts store don't accept returns I can only sell it. It goes for like $250 at other online places so I thought this is a fair price
-
I'll let mine go if anyone is interested in buying it, SOLD SOLD
I just got one to put myself over the $1399 mark, but I can't imagine using it much since I'm plugged in most of the time. -
fomanpu, how much are you looking to get for it? I would like to have one, but am not desperate for one.
-
For those who inquired, I'll let my SLICE go...
SOLD -
I sent you an email fomanpu

Does anyone know how to get the laptop to discharge the slice battery first? It'll be so much more convenient if it can discharge from the slice first so I can just take it off once it is drained to save some weight.
Edit
nvm, it was actually discharging from the slice first. my bad. -
-
only 2 hours gain? that sounds ridiculous. Im seeing about double the battery life as before, around 8 hours, so around 4 without the slice. I also always use my screen on full brightness and backlit keyboard is always on.
I use the 17 as my DTR and media server (but i just sent it back for repairs, qq), so I cant quite compare the two. 17 is huge, and the 1920x1080 radiance screen is just beautiful, even brighter and more vivid than the 14's radiance. However both of my envies were earlier models, so they both suffer from annoying keyboard flexes. -
-
oy, thats sad. Do you do a lot of heavy flash browsing or something? Cuz with the 59Whr battery, you'd have to hit a consistent 20W discharge rate to reach that. When I we browse with high brightness I'm usually sitting at 15W discharge rate. I'm not too surprised though, the Envy 14's power management is pretty bad. A core i5 on integrated graphics should really last 6 hours on a 59WHr battery. Every single other cheap core i5 notebooks seem to be able to do that.

Hi guys, new owner of an Envy 14 Beats and new poster. I received my Envy a little over a week ago and have been enjoying it thoroughly. The Envy is replacing a 13" Macbook Pro that went to my Wife. One of my main concerns was losing the awesome battery life of the Mac and so I ordered a Slice battery from the HP Parts Store. I made sure to order the "New" one and not the refurb that was just a couple bucks less.
I have been using it daily for various tasks, work and pleasure, and have been getting about 4-4:30hrs on the built in battery and an additional 4-4:30hrs when I add the slice. I usually keep the LCD at about Half brightness, WiFi on, Bluetooth on (using bt stereo headset), web browsing with some youtube watching, and an occasional session of Onlive gaming. Obviously when I am running Onlive my battery takes a stronger hit as the wireless is working constantly to stream the game to my system. However it still hasn't made a terrible impact.
I also mentioned using this for work, and as such I occasionally need to connect in using Citrix or a VPN. The slice gives me the extra battery power I may need when I'm on the road as you can't always count on a convenient power outlet. The slice has been worth the money so far. Yes it may be more expensive than a spare battery, but with that you have to power down, switch the battery and then boot back up. Not to mention how do you keep a 2nd battery charged? With the slice you just attach it to the Envy and it charges with the internal battery. No fuss.
I give the Slice Two Thumbs Up! -
Just got mine from the parts store, charging it as I type.
Adds quite a bit of weight to the laptop but I won't be using it all the time. -
This has kind of been addressed earlier, but is the slice battery in the parts store #602410-001 which is sold for $127 the same as the Slice battery that is, as of 14 Mar, being sold on the Home & Office side for $169? I ask because of the large discrepency in price, and before I purchase the $127 one I want to be absolutely sure. It just seems incredibly odd that HP would allow the same part to be sold on it's site at 2 drastically different prices if there wasn't some difference.

Waiting on my replacement Envy 14 laptop: i7-840QM Quad Core, 8GB RAM, Windows 7, 640GB @ 7200RPM, 1GB ATI Radeon for Quad Core. -
How much additional battery life are we talking about here while gaming? Just trying to determine if it's worth the $170 for me...
-
-
Yep. I bought one off a user here on the forums for $160, and it was one of the best additions I made to my Envy. I can easily get 8 hours out of it while doing simple tasks in Microsoft Office and browsing the web. How long it lasts while gaming, is probably not as much since you're putting much more strain on the GPU/CPU, but it is still a worthy addition IMO
-
I totally agree that the slice is a great addition to have especially for long trips in the car or long days at work or school. The weight it adds never bothered me and i walk with it all the time.
-
I don't have an Envy, but since the secondary battery isn't very common with HP 8540w owners, I'm posting my question here.
We all know that batteries shouldn't be completely drained to 0% on a regular basis. Keeping that in mind, should we keep an eye on the remaining battery % of the slice battery to prevent rapid battery wear? Or is this handled somehow in the battery? Like an overhead battery capacity that may not show up in Battery Bar. -
I do believe, atleast with the Envy's, that once the battery gets to around 5% or so it goes into shutdown until plugged into a power source again. This may prevent running the battery all the way down to 0%...
-
From what I have noticed the slice drains down to around 3% and then switches to internal. That is what batery bar pro shows. It shows no wear so far though, even though I use it on a daily basis.
-
appreciate the input
I'll give it a try and leave the secondary battery attached until it switches over to the primary battery and see if Battery Bar reports additional wear each time. Guess it's not that big of a deal for me since my secondary battery only cost me $50 -
$50!!! you lucky person you
-
he isn't referring to the the envy slice for $ 50.
-
"Guess it's not that big of a deal for me since my secondary battery only cost me $50"
But.. but... the secondary battery is the slice? Confused. Oh well -
Yes but back in his OP he said that he had one of the business class notebooks, not an Envy
-
just ordered a slice with a student discount plus 30$ coupon for 130$
hoping i can max my battery life and use it when im gaming on the go..
getting about 2 hours and 30 minutes on intel gpu
cpu settings turned down and wifi settings decreased
really wanna go for that 5 hour mark... (with the slice) -
LOL
sorry for the confusion excalibur, I have an HP 8540w and a secondary battery. As pointed out, I stated in my OP that I asked my question in here because not many 8540w owners use the secondary battery.
how are you Envy 14 owners getting such terrible battery life on Intel gpu?
My 8540w doesn't have switchable graphics, so it's always running on M5800 and I can easily get 4+ hrs on primary battery (73mW) and an additional 3+ hours on the secondary (59mW). Usage includes browsing (w/ multiple windows and tabs) and office (word, excel, and one note) at 50% screen brightness. -
Hopefully your guys' Envy slice battery is built differently, but I got the answer to my question. I let the slice battery on my HP 8540w run down until the primary battery took over. It had 0.6% wear and after letting it run down, it is now at 5.9% wear
At this rate, this secondary battery will be useless after only a dozen cycles or so. -
Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a slice online?
Bare in mind I'm in the UK so would need somewhere that offers international shipping (so HP is out).
