So i have been hearing some people say that the touchpad on the Envy line is a very fickle thing. Some people say that it works perfectly and some say that it is horrid. From all of the posts that i have read regarding this, it seems that the focus of these issues seems to revolve around the drivers for the device, and the settings within.

So, like many others out there, will eventually (if not immediately) perform a clean wipe of the laptop, and will eventually reinstall Windows and all of the updated drivers whenever possible.

If i wanted to use the exact same drivers that came with the laptop initially, i would use those stored in the SwSetup folder. If i wanted the newest, i'd pick it up off of HP or Synaptic's website.

    So, my question is this...
After reinstalling the Touchpad drivers, do i need to muck with the settings to regain the same performance that it had right out of the box? Or, should it already have the same performance as before, without any settings modification? Or it there no chance at ever recovering the same level of performance?

Any input on this is appreciated, tho i would prefer input from those with firsthand experience in this matter.

    thanks!

I did a clean install of Windows on my Envy, but so far can't get the Touchpad to work at all. I installed the drivers from a fresh download from HP, they install without a hitch, but they never recognize I have the touchpad. Any ideas as to what might be going on would be appreciated.

see... this is what im talking about. did you ever backup the SwSetup folder? There should be a copy of the drivers that shipped w/ your envy in there. Lemme know how that works for you....

I noticed that the drivers from HP's website don't work on win 7 HP 64-bit.

the installer says "dude these are 32-bit drivers"

the drivers I got from windows update however DO work.

Yes, I backed up that folder. I have used both the drivers in the folder as well as fresh ones from HP. Neither enable the touchpad.

does the touchpad have a glowing light on it?

try double clicking there. it may just be turned off from the double click

also it seems like it's more of a triple or quadruple click on that light to turn it on or off

Nope. the 'disabled' light is not lit. tapping it repeatedly does not change its status. Tried using the drivers from MS and those are not working either.

I ripped out every trace of the driver manually, then used the windows update drivers. Now it seems to be working.
