This is happening way too often. Sometimes the WIFI seems to be turned off and not working after several hours usage. I have to restart it in order to make it works. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? THanks in advance for all helps and suggestions. Have a bless day!

Hello husnierw,
I too had a problem with the WiFi on my Envy 14 disconnecting and it took me a lot of time and effort to track down the problem.
Your issue with the WiFi turning off could be due to several factors and because of that I would suggest trying the following things in the order listed.
1. Your drivers may be faulty.
Make sure that you have the latest version of the drivers for your WiFi device correctly installed. If the latest drivers are not yet installed, install them. If the problem remains, move on to 2.
2. Your computer may be purposefully disabling your WiFi device.
Go into Device Manager, open the options for your WiFi device, go to the Power Management tab and make sure that there is not a checkmark in the box next to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." If the problem remains, move on to 3.
3. Your WiFi transmission may be weak.
In the Device Manager options for your wireless device under the Advanced tab, make sure that your Transmit Power is set to 5. Highest.
In your modem/router settings, make sure that its options for signal transmission are also set to the highest possible setting. I wish I could be more instructive on this suggestion, but the exact method for changing modem/router settings varies from device to device. If the problem remains move on to 4.
5. Your WiFi connection may be experiencing interference from other connections around you.
Download the Xirrus WiFi Inspector from this website: Xirrus: The Leader in High Performance Wi-Fi - Advanced IT Wi-Fi Networking Tools. Install Xirrus and take note of other WiFi connections in your area other than that to which you are connected, specifically their channel number. If the channel number of connections in your area other than that to which you are connected are of the same channel as your connection, go into your modem settings and change the channel that your connection is broadcast over to the channel furthest from that which the other connections are broadcast. (For example change it to 11 if the other connections are set on channel 1). This was the problem with my WiFi, but your problem may be different.
There are a couple of other things that were suggested to me but which I never needed to try myself. Proceed with caution, I have not tried these solutions myself.
6. Your modem may not be compatible with your wireless device.
In Device Manager in the options for your wireless device under the Advanced tab, try setting the option for 802.11n Mode as Disabled. Not all modems function properly with the N Mode of some devices.
7. Your wireless device may be trying to switch to another connection.
In Device Manager in the options for your wireless device under the Advanced tab, try setting the option for Roaming Aggressiveness to 1. Lowest.
Again, if I were you I would try each of these possible solutions in the order given, one at a time, waiting to see if they solve the problem or not before moving on to the next option. I can't guarantee success, but all of these things were suggested to me to try when I had my own WiFi issue. Some of them were unrelated to the problem, but one of them was spot on. Hopefully one of them will work for you.
Good luck! -
Hi Random15,
Thank you very much for all your helps and suggestion. This is the best guide ever. Thanks once again for every time you spend to write this reply. I really appreciate it.
However, I do have one other problem with my envy 14. My laptop got electrify a bit everytime i plugged in my charger. Fyi, Im using travel adapter and have tried using stabilizer but still doesnt work.
It is like the electric input is way too high, any suggestion? or idea to reduce/eliminate this problem?
Thanks once again in advance! Have a blessed day guys -
Hello husnierw,
No problem. I just hope that at least one of the suggestions I offered solves the problem for you.
Unfortunately I don't know much about about your second problem, nor about chargers or travel adapters for the Envy.
Hopefully someone else with more knowledge than I will come across this thread and help you out.
If you don't get a reply in this thread, I recommend posting your question in the Envy 14 Owners Lounge: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/502434-official-hp-envy-14-owners-lounge-part-deux-618.html or in the Accessories section of this forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/accessories/.
A lot of knowledgeable people frequent the Envy 14 Owners Lounge, and I am guessing that people with more knowledge about travel adapters and the like may be more likely to read the Accessories forum than the HP forums.
I wish I could be of more help.
Best of luck!
