    Hi all,

I tried searching the forum and found nothing, so hopefully this hasn't been asked and I just used the wrong keywords.

As of yesterday, my Envy 14 won't charge the battery. It's slowly been losing percentage (right now at 7.3%). I'm plugged into A/C and the percentage won't go down, but won't go up either. If I unplug it, it'll start to drain (thus why it's down to 7.3% from 100% initially). However, when I unplug it, it runs fine on battery, just keeps saying its running out and that it's low.

When I plug it back in, Windows says its charging fine, but it doesn't actually. I used battery bar, and it says charge rate is 0mw.

Here's the full batterybar right now actually:
    Percent: 7.3%
    Capacity 3,715 mWh of 50,794
    Charge Rate: 0 mW
    Battery: 2:22 (Charging)
    Full Runtime: 1:59
    A/C: Connected
    Battery Wear: 14.2% of 59,200

Despite it saying it's charging, it's been at 7.3 for over an hour now.

No idea what to do... the unit is only a little over a year old. Is the battery dead? But if so, why can I use/discharge it fine but not recharge it? Is there something loose in the connections inside the laptop? I've tried multiple A/C adapters, so I don't think it's that.

    Hi fandangoex,

Have you tried using another battery to see if the problem persists?

Have you tried charging it with the computer off? Not that it tells you that much either way.

Probably a faulty battery. Do you have HP Support Assistant installed? If so, there's a battery checker in that app you can use to verify.

If you're under warranty still you should be able to get a new battery. My extended battery died last week (wouldn't charge at all) and I received a brand new one in a few days.

    Good luck!

Unfortunately I have no other laptop batteries handy.

    Yes, still won't charge :/

Out of warranty by like four months (bummer!), but I'll try the tools you mentioned.

I think your charging system may actually be at fault. In my experience, when a battery starts to lose its charging capacity, it won't accurately report its charge state. It will read as 100%, but it won't last as long on a charge. At worst, it will read 100%, but run out of charge in minutes. The fact that it has read a decreasing charge shows that the battery is reporting its capacity correctly.

Since you're out of warranty, you will be on your own. But if you're going to buy a battery, I'd also spring for a new charger.

It may also be the charging connection on the laptop, which can end up under stress from the weight of the connector and wire. I know on my old HP dv6, it won't charge unless you hold the wire a certain way and jiggle it until the charging light turns on. Then you have to carefully disengage. Look at it wrong and it will stop. You can also replace this connector, but it's a lot more involved than simply replacing the battery or charger, so I'd save it as a last resort, unless you're experiencing the same symptoms my old dv6 has.
