Had my Envy 14 for a year, decided to upgrade my RAM and now this happens ...
My battery backdoor won't seem to pop open at all. I know you have to push it first and then lift it up, but the thing is the little lock won't push all the way. I can push maybe 1/5 of the way and then it won't go on further - seems like something's jamming the lock but I don't know what it is. Any of you guys have any idea what to do?
It's out of warranty and so HP won't fix it unless I pay them $255. D:

well. the battery door is jammed slightly.
if you're lucky you can just push on it a bit harder and it'll open.
if you aren't lucky it's going to snap and you'll be out of luck.
so...don't force it too hard but try to force it a little bit more than what you are forcing it..unless you're forcing it a lot.
if you are..you may just have to try to I dunno..try to pry it open (but that will probably break it anyway)
edit: I mean I only remember one other person on this board having the battery door be jammed and when they forced the lever/switch/whatever too much it broke completely -
My first Envy 14 was like this every time just push it as hard as you can but don't put anything underneath it. Just push with a horizontal force, don't put any force that will make it pop out of the latch. It should slide over with enough force.

Yea, be careful with how much force you use and at what angle. I was careless and broke mine. Still trying to figure out how to open it now :/

I was able to reattach my battery door slider by opening up the entire bottom outside case of the laptop. You can take off the bottom covers simply by undoing some screws (See part of the instructions on page 47 here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02835360.pdf).
When my slider came off, it came with the 2.5mm screw still attached. I was able to reattach the slider by adding a washer between the slider and the screw so that they more firmly hold together.
Below is an image of the underside of where the slider is attached. If you look closely, you can see that there is a small circle indentation around the screw- perfect for a small washer. If your slider comes off like mine, just reattach it with a slider, clean some of the gunk that may have accumulated, and it should work great afterwords.
Envy 14 first-gen - can't open up the battery backdoor
