I follow the guidelines in the owner's thread. I made recovery disks, reformatted my Envy 14, forgot to backup the swsetups, no biggie.

So I download the drivers via the Envy 14 Drivers Thread. All set and downloaded and awaiting to be downloaded! After through and through, I install the the new ATI driver to install over the HP driver. A few flickers and then.... my Envy turned into a 5.25lb paper-weight.

And now I'm not even sure what's happening. I turn it off and back on, don't hear post beeps... I'm a desktop man I need to hear them! I figure that the computer actually didn't turn off. Take out the battery and back in. Nada. Zip. Nothing. No video feed. Only a screen reflection of a god-awfully scary face, staring right into my eyes.

Can somebody please! Please for the love of God and that I probably jinxed myself saying HP is the greatest due to their awesome no delay shipping and early arrival of my laptop, please come up with a suggestion that can remedy this!

Try connecting an external monitor. Can you get into BIOS?

Try taking out the battery and unplugging the laptop from the outlet.

Now hold down the power button for 30 seconds.

Put the battery back in and plug the laptop back in and see if it works.

    Let me know what happens.

Does your envy POST? Can you access the BIOS? Try turning it off then turn it back on and keep tapping F10. I really doubt a driver would cause issues with POST/ BIOS.

EDIT: Just as everyone said, try removing the battery, power plug, and press the power button for 30 seconds. If that doesn't work, you might wanna try resetting the CMOS by opening up the computer and take out the little button battery for about 15 minutes. If that doesn't work and you still can't pass POST, then I think might have to RMA and it's more of a hardware/ corrupted BIOS issue.

Ah! I received all of your psychic, wonderful, brainpower that combined into a miraculous force into wondrous things called luck and chance! I love you all, people of notebookreview!

I realized that the webcam, remembering that it is never on, is always on when I turn on the computer. Meaning that the laptop is just going into sleep mode and turning back on (Thank god I put that face recognition program so the webcam led is on). I realized that I had to take drastic measures and so took out the battery while the computer was on. Boot it back up, HALLELUIAH! My god, I started to blast out Hallelujah by Rufus Wainright (best version IMO). Thank you guys!!

Oh my during my typing I received three posts! I held the power button for 5 seconds, I mean that's how you force turn-off a system right? When I turn it on, no beeps so it didn't post. Action keys were fine (the eject button) but really, I couldn't do anything because it wasn't a desktop, I would have immediately checked out the video card.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys :)

Edit: @GivingHope Is there even a CMOS button on the motherboard or jumper pins? Either way I would have been, to hell with it, and sent it back RMA.

Are you saying that you can't even access the BIOS or go beyond POST? That's very strange how installing ATI drivers did that or it's just a weird coincidence...

And nope, but you can easily reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS/RTC battery. Well, atleast most desktop mobos are like that, I'm sure laptop mobo applies too.
