Envy 14 recovery partition - what now?

First of all, I posted this information in another thread about Envy 14, but the thread has 64 pages and it's not related to my issue, that's why I think it's a lot better to start my own post. Thanks.

Dear Envy 14(-1190ea) users,

I come here today with sad news, but first, let me share my story. Everything started when I bought the awesome HP Envy 14-1190ea (model XE659EA) when I was in UK. Great laptop! But then I did the utmost stupid thing ever: formatted the recovery partition. Tears have been shed since then.

After a few weeks e-mailing HP about buying a recovery disk here in Brazil (where I live), they told me they are unable to ship a recovery disk of my model here, because they don't sell the HP Envy 14-1190ea here.

The situation was pretty bad, but I could make it because everything with my OS was fine, until it wasn't anymore. I know I could simply download Windows 7 and use my key, but I want the OS with factory settings - software installed and everything else. I actually want to restore it to factory settings exactly to have all the crap HP puts on my Windows, including Photoshop Elements and other software you can only have when restoring it from a recovery partition.

That's why I'm here. I'm here today to make an appeal.
I need someone to make an iso of their recovery partition and share it with me, I don't know, probably as a torrent. Anything. This is the only way I can have the OS with factory settings back. Oh, don't worry about the key: Windows 7 will ask for it and I'll use mine, of course.

I know this is kinda impossible to happen, but if you're feeling like a good person, please, help this lost soul.

PS: I believe I need to get the recovery for my exact model, so if you're asking which one is, you can check the specs here:

Do you have the exact same model? Could you please make a torrent and leave it there, seeding? It's not like I need it to download in one day and you wouldn't need to upload it somewhere...

 

I have the default disks that come with the Envy, but be aware that my upload speed sucks (1Mbps). The disk that comes with the envy is identical for all of them.

I need to copy the disks off onto my hard drive. I'll stick all the iso's into a single rar or something.

Edit: Here, how about this. I'll just copy off the swsetup and upload that. It's only around 4 gigs and has all the software you need.

 

hey eafd, thanks a lot! are you sure I only need the swsetup? it'll format my hdd creating the recovery partition again? will I be able to make my own 20gig isos (4 dvds) with that?

and you have a disk? that's strange... mine didn't come with any disk at all, only a recovery partition.

 

Oh, you won't have the recovery partition, which might be a problem if you need it. With just the swsetup you can reinstall all of the software, but you'll need your own win7 install file.

I opted for the disk because it was a 400$ rebate once the price was above 1200$, so I needed something to bump it up.

Edit: tell me quickly if you really need that recovery partition. with the swsetup folder you can get the stock OS without needing the 22GB iso for the disks, but you won't have the recovery partition. You'll need to install windows 7 separately, then go through manually and install everything in the swsetup folder.

 

I aleady have my own Windows 7, so I think swsetup will be enough.

Ok, so I have 25 198MB rars. You'll need some sort of software like WinRAR to join them into one single folder.

Serial numbers for the Adobe stuff can be found by going to:

Folder (AdobePE for Premiere, PhotoPIN for photoshop elements)> find the .cva file. Open in notepad. Look for a line that says

[Install Execution]
Install=OEM.exe
SilentInstall=OEM.exe /UL1033 /V"SERIALNUMBER=serial goes here ELEMENTS_ALL=1 DELETEDESKTOPSHORTCUT=1"

And there you go, it'll have the serial. I'm not going to post the serial, but you can get it yourself after the download.

I'll post when done, but expect it to take a while. I"m going to upload overnight over the next few days.

 

Thanks eafd! Are you sure you don't want to seed only one file using torrent or something like that? It could be easier. But well, you know what's the best way to share, I'll just go along.

Don't worry about the time, upload it when you can and post only when you're done. No need to rush.

Ok thankyou for doing this, will your file get all my drivers back including the sim card slot which is under my battery etc thanks

 

You can download your drivers off of HP's driver page. Did you order WWAN with your Envy? If you didn't, then the SIM slot has no use.

This swsetup package is mostly for those who would like to restore their computer to a stock state sans the recovery partition. If you just need drivers, don't download this because it's a huge waste of your time and contains gigabytes of extra stuff.
