I noticed that my Envy 14 is very quiet. When I set the speakers at max, the sound is not very loud. My iPhone is loud as, if not louder when set to the max volume. Do I need to adjust certain settings or are the speakers blown out?

Has anyone else found this to be the case?

I have found this to be true as well. Sad, because Engadget seemed to think they were above average for laptop speakers.

the speakers are kinda crappy. the "beats audio" stuff refers to the overpowered headphone jack (which is very loud and can pick up white noise/static if your headphones have low impedimence...so it's just loud it isn't implemented as well as they could have done it)

anyway. to make the speakers louder (note that this could cause some weird distortion while wearing headphones so you may wanna lower bass some on the EQ profile, it's the thing on the far far left): http://forum.notebookreview.com/5668647-post3614.html

yeah that's for the envy15 but they use the same audio chip.

I think the headphone jack is pretty freakin awesome. Is there a computer out there with as good or better headphone jacks?

I found the speakers to be very loud for a laptop of this size. Usually I only use my Senn. 595 instead of laptop speakers, this is the first laptop I use it without my headphones. At max, my laptop speakers is certainly louder than my iphone.

My speakers were somewhat low as well and would not render some bass (they would "screech" a bit).

I applied the tweak you mentionned last week, it works much better now.
