Bought a new external monitor, a BenQ V2420H and it doesn't seem to be connecting to my envy with the HDMI. I did do a clean install so maybe I didn't install the correct drivers after that? Any help would be great!

make sure you installed the graphics drivers from the HP website -- they are specific to the E14 because of the switchable graphics option.

You will need to be on the "high-power" (AMD GPU) option for HDMI and DisplayPort to work.
