I've noticed that my lid won't close all the way and it would stay open just a tiny bit; not enough to start up the computer, but enough to annoy me. I'm not sure what caused it because I don't remember having that problem when I first got the computer. I've never dropped it and took good care of it.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it possible to fix it without sending it back to HP since I would need this for college? Thank you for your time and I would appreciate your help.

You could take it apart and tighten up the hinge. Service manual's on the first page of the owner's lounge

Press on the panel around the keyboard, does it flex in at all? if so, should be a quick fix, just need to resit everything.

I just remembered that I dropped my laptop from my bed, which is about a feet above the ground. The lid looks straight when it's opened and even when it's closed, the lid near the hinge looks fine, but the lid close to where the touchpad and speaker is located, the lid is slightly up, so I think it's bent a bit. Is there a way to fix that also?

Oh. In that case, you could try to straighten it manually, I guess. If all else fails, you could always take apart the display and un-warp the metal frame/backing inside

Maybe take it to an auto repair shop. I know weird, but they may do it, or if not them, take it to any metal contruction/metal fabrication factory. They might be able to straighten it out for you.

I take it you don't have the special warranty on it? Although I checked out the accidental protection plan....the terms and conditions were a bit sketchy to me. If someone can clarify it please. It mentions how accidental dents and stuff is not covered. Doesn't that kind of defeat the point of buying an accidental plan?

A section from Terms & Conditions:

    Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH)
ADH covers operational or mechanical failure from handling and does not include protection against normal wear and tear, fire, theft, consumables, intentional acts of damage associated with handling and use of the product and cosmetic damage and/or other damage that does not affect the unit functionality. Coverage is subject to the “SERVICE LIMITATIONS” section below.

So if you drop it and dent it, but it works, it won't be covered, right? If so, why pay the $299 for 4 years....

    KJ

This is a good idea but i'd take out the screen first just in case. Replacing it costs $250-350.
