So I downloaded the latest ATI/Intel drivers. Like recommended, I unistalled everything ATI on the system, including the catalyst control center. I ran the installer, and everything seemed to be going well. But then I bluescreened. I rebooted and the ATI installer said everything had installed correctly (including the catalyst control center). Then, at one point, I was asked if I wanted to change my graphics. I did and the Intel activated. Now I seem to have no ATI 5650 on my system, and the installer cannot detect it, nor can my PC. Nor can I find the catalyst control center on my PC (the only way I know of to change my graphics - please tell me if there's an easier way).

I'm at a loss of what to do. I've rebooted since then, and nothing changed. Windows used to keep trying to install its own OLD version of the drivers (a total pain), but now even Windows does nothing.

Did you try installing the original 10.3 drivers from HP?

I think it was 10.3 (might be 10.7 though). Anyway, it was the drivers I was running previously. Couldn't detect the card either.

    You can try the following:

    * Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall.
    * Reboot your PC in Safe Mode.
    * Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean.
    * Analyze lists all the entries possible to remove, cleaning removes the entries selected.
    * More drivers can be selected for the same cleaning process.
    * Reinstall your origional graphics drivers

So I did the whole safe mode thing, and reinstalled drivers from scratch. Everything is up to date now, but for some reason I can't launch Catalyst Control Center, even though it is supposedly installed and up to date. Where is CCC located? And is there some way to switch graphics without using it?

Well, all appears to be working again. But what a PITA. I literally spent 6 hours today figuring this out. It appears that Catalyst Control Center cannot be removed from the system except through ATI's own software. Got 10.8 up and running though (just out today), and switchable graphics works from CCC.

1 question: is there any other way to switch my Envy 14's graphics than through CCC?

Right click anywhere on your desktop. In the pop up menu second option from the top you should see the option to Configure Switchable graphics.

What steps did you take to install 10.8?

Well, the main problem was that CCC wouldn't uninstall, no mater what I did. I finally used the built-in installer, and then used your recommended driver wipe program. +rep for your help, BTW.

To install 10.8, I first installed the HP dual drivers (ATI/Intel), and then installed 10.8 over it.

Thanks for the tip about switchable graphics! I never had thought about using that option.

See my guide in my sig. I recommend the lastest drivers from HP's site (also in my guide) that are 10.7.

Don't use driver sweeper, or use it with EXTREME CAUTION. I did that and had to reinstall windows. It blows away drivers and files that you can't ever get a screen.
