I updated to Catalyst 10.6 about a week ago and I've had no problems until today.
I noticed that whenever I try to play one specific video embeded on a web page, the video box turns green and I get an error message in my system tray indicating the ATI display driver has stopped working and no other flash videos are playable, they all turn green.
I reboot and the same problem occurs, but only if I try to play this specific flash video in Google Chrome.
I tried playing the video in Internet Explorer; however, it doesn't appear on the webpage in IE. Haven't tried Firefox.
Here is a link to the specific video that is causing problems on gameinformer.com:

I will try upgrading to 10.7
EDIT: It played fine when I uninstalled all ATI software and drivers and reboot the system. Then, after installing Catalyst 10.7, there were no further problems.

How funny. I was having the same problem caused by that website on my laptop (Envy 17). I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it as well as updated the catalyst software and it now works. Fingers crossed that it stays like that.

That video caused both my desktop (Radeon 4870) and Envy 14 (Radeon 5650) to stop responding and recover.
I don't care enough about that video to mess with drivers when everything else works right now though -

there was an issue with a new flash video codec, hardware acceleration for flash 10.1, and catalyst 10.6
10.7 fixes the problem.
said problem caused your computer to BSOD.
solution is to update to 10.7 or turn off hardware acceleration for flash 10.1 (find some sort of flash ad that works, right click, go to settings, pick the tv icon on the far left I think, turn off hardware acceleration) -
Can you please provide a link to the .7 drivers plz. Forgive my noobishness, but I am struggling to find them. Thanks.

10.7a CAUSES my Radeon 4870 desktop to BSOD. With 10.4a, the display driver merely stopped responding and recovered.
Trying laptop soon.
edit: Okay Envy 14 works good. But damn I do not want my desktop BSOD'ing when I'm working.... -
I am having no luck at all. Downloaded the 10.7 catalyst drivers. Did a fresh install of them after using CC cleaner etc and after 10.7 installs, it does nothing. It installs, says complete, but it will not let me open it. Every time I go to click on CCC, the windows blue circle (thinking) pops up for a few seconds, but nothing happens. This is happening over and over and I am stuck with useless computer.

How do we install 10.7 if we can't uninstall HP drivers?
-
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I had no problems going from 10.6 to 10.7 with just clicking on the ATI Install Manager in Programs and Features to uninstall and remove 10.6 (including ATI software).
I have drivercleaner.net, but I didn't use it or CCleaner.
I rebooted after uninstallilng and then installed 10.7 -
I uninstalled 10.6 and CC cleaned, rebooted and reinstalled 10.7. Now CCC wont open and my screen looks horrible. I went ahead and uninstalled 10.7 since it was not working, did a reclean and reinstalled the HP stock drivers. Now my screen looks fine, but I still can not access CCC. When I click it, nothing happens. If I have to system restore (and it seems like im heading this way) how do I get 10.7 on my envy without having these sorts of issues again?
-
Install 10.7(a) right over the HP drivers worked for me.
(You get a black screen through most of the installation though so you need to wait ~10 minutes to ensure the installation finished before attempting to reboot by either pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, Down 6 times, right 2 times, space, up 4 times,.. or set your power button to restart instead of sleep/shutdown) -
Ok thanks for the tips. I am half way through factory restore, and I will give this a shot when its back up and running. I will update as I progress through the steps. Thanks again fellas.

Well so far this has been a big waste of time
I did a factory restore and let everything reset. Once that was complete, I went to the ati website and DLed the 10.7 catalyst control center and ran it right over the HP drivers. It went through a complete install, never blinked or blacked out the screen, and completed installation. So I restart and go check my driver version and nothing has changed. It still says HP drivers are installed as if I never installed the ATI drivers. Im out of ideas and becoming frustrated with this machine. I purchased it to game and all it has done since arriving is blue screen due to driver failures out of the box.
Edit 1: Ok, I tried two more times and on the 3rd try it finally went to black screen. I left it there for 15 min and restarted. It just came up and it seems that 10.7 is installed. Time to run some test. Thx again for the patience and assistance. -
Does your version of Catalyst allow you access to OverDrive???
I can't seem to access it. -

no I can't use overdrive on my envy 14

Well, an update. Finally got 10.7 installed, and after an hour of gaming. Bluescreen with driver failure. This is happening too much for my liking, so I am gonna contact HP. A shame too, because this really put a bad taste in my mouth for my first HP

were you having any of these problems before the very first time you upgraded to Catalyst 10.7?
If I understand correctly, you did complete restore to factory conditions and you were still experiencing problems without installing any ATI drivers? -
-
It was one of the first ones made (first gen) im assuming. I received it the first day most Americans were getting theirs. I have an exchange already in place. Ty though for all the tips.
Edit: I received my box today to ship it out for repair, but around noon I was contacted by HPs research and dev. team. They said if I would be willing to send them my machine so they can run test on it etc. instead of sending it out for repairs, that they would send me a new envy with some decent upgrades as a replacement.. They said they would send me the new rig, and once I receive it, I have 48 hours to get my current one shipped back. Anyone ever heard of this before? It almost didn't sound legit, but the guy knew my order #s, email, name, address etc, so what did I have to lose really. After doing a bit of research, I found it to be a legit deal, so woot. -

I called technical support. The tech # directly off the hp website and spent a solid hour on the phone a few days back with them, as they attempted to trouble shoot my problem. Once they realized that nothing we did was working, they said they were sending me out a box to ship it in for repairs. Friday I received the box to ship it out, and had full intentions of doing so that afternoon, but then I got the call from the research and dev. engineer instead.
Yes its for the envy 14. They said something about me having a unique issue with my machine and they wanted to give me a new machine in trade for it, so they can run test etc. to prevent further issues like this on the next batch. Naturally, I did not argue with them about it since they were offering upgrades, and I also don't have to ship mine out until I get the new one lol.
I'm not sure if I am just the lucky snow flake that was picked out of the group, or what the deal is. All I know is, I am damn excited and can not wait for my new rig to be here next week.
