I need to connect my HP Envy 15 to my TV`s VGA port, and I´m looking for the best alternative. This is because I only get a stretched picture when I connect it to the DVI port through a HDMI > DVI-adapter.
HP has an official HDMI -> VGA adapter. What´s people experience with that? Perfect? Problems? I see that Envy 15 is not listed as a supported model for it, but does that matter?

so the envy 15 didnt come with VGA? if your computer have hdmi you can get one from ebay or buy.com for about $10

what type of graphics card does yours have? I have a terrible time getting my computer to work with my HD tv. If it's ATI, i might be able to help you out.

I'm not sure if VGA will do any better for screen quality. Your TV doesn't have a HDMI port? What resolution and brand is it?

DVI and HDMI are both digital video signals.
VGA is analog video signals.
You can't have just a port converter for an HDMI > VGA adapter. Here's an example of an HDMI/DVI > VGA converter: http://www.svideo.com/ext-dvi-2-vga.html
Concerning your stretched picture using HDMI > DVI, did you try adjusting the aspect setting on your TV (Zoom, Stretch, Wide, Normal, etc.)? As an example, on my TV with 720p VGA being fed in, I need to set it to Wide to have a correct picture displayed. -

One has to be wrong. -

That's pretty cool! Wonder if they added additional analog lines to the HDMI port, because it doesn't look like it's capable of actually converting the signal? Doesn't look like it's compatible with my G62t, though.
Just did some more research on this, and it looks like some, not all, HDMI output devices provide an analog VGA signal set on some pins.

check out the use of video scalers/scan converters. Not the cheap ones either. you want to find a unit that allows for image adjustment.

I really need some help with getting a proper signal to my TV with my Envy. Since the hopeless HP-people can´t give me an answer to when I can get the VGA-adapter, I am trying to get a signal with HDMI to DVI. But I only get a purple picture and stretched image on my HD Ready TV.
