I had the same problem. The repeated attempts caused the felt piece to come unglued. I returned mine today to wait for a new one. If the 2nd one is the same, I'll give up...

Yeah it seems like the gluing was very badly done
manage to gt the disc out but the disc got glue on it on the bottom
( very unhappy right now, did you call how did you send it back? I guess I'll send my back too for a new one
...
UGGGGHHH been waiting for forever, very fustrated -
I did call, it was pretty straightforward. I was able to push the felt down to get the disc out, but it kept popping up. I ended up pulling off the whole piece which left it looking like crap. I decided that was unacceptable for a 1,000 computer and setup the exchange.

Okay thanks... I guess ill call em, how does one go about exchanging it? I have to pay for shipping myself? That's some BS.
-
-
Well they can't provide exchange right away because the coupon i used was expired... Super visoer i talked to said she has to wait and talk to head management who won't work weekend so she'll call me back monday night.. this is bs...
they offered the exchange charging me a 300$ for it, and i'll get that money back once exchange is done... ! i have to pay 300$ to exchange THEIR broken product? I told her that's unacceptable so I'll have to wait till monday for the, to call.. even longer to send this in and get a new envy...
Why do i have to go this hell of customer service and wait basically two months? since my very first order?... I really unsure about ever buying anything HP ever again. -
Yeah, my "charge" ended up being $100, so I said fine. They said the same thing; it will be refunded when the new one ships. Seriously, they need to fix their ordering/billing/accounting systems.
If Dells XPS 15 comes out this week, I may just tell them nevermind. We'll see.

My CD ejects fine, but I took a look and I do notice the felt isn't cut in the center and the bottom half takes up most of the space.

same problem on mine. to work around it while creaitng recovery disks, I prodded the felt thing down with a fork and the disk popped out. Lemme know how the exchange goes... Im wondering in just calling in the repair cause the rest of my laptop is fine besides anther thing
-
Same problem here. Since I gutted mine anyways to install a bluray drive, I reglued the felt piece down. Now if only I could get the eject button to work with the new drive.
-
That really is poor luck. Did glueing it again correct the problem? Did it look ok?

There are two ways to go about it. If you disassemble the laptop (basically remove the TOP COVER), you will have access to the bracket that the felt is glued to. It is held on with 3 screws. When you have it off, you can see that part of it is supposed to be glued flat on a lip of that bracket. If you were to slid a disk through that slit, the underside of it would slide over the felt. Anyways, you just lift up the felt, put a couple drops of superglue under it, press and hold the felt to the metal for ~20-30 seconds, and all done.
If you don't want to take it all apart, you will need a small hook. Put a tiny drop of superglue on the end of the hook, slip it through the slit and touch the metal that the felt should glue to. Do this a few times to get glue in a few places, then push something (like a piece of cardboard) through the slit to apply pressure to the felt and metal, allowing the glue to bond them. Pull out whatever you used after 20-30 seconds, and you should be all done. -
I had exact same issue with mine that was caused by the thin piece of sticky felt not pressed firmly at the factory to the metal surface inside the slot. That piece of felt would get in the way of the disk. Very easy fix indeed, no need to disassemble or return anything. I just took a staple and carefully pressed the felt against the surface to make it stay flat. Case solved.
