Hi Everyone! I have, what seems to be a rare HDMI output problem. The screen on monitor 2 (philips 47" lcd) goes green for a second and then the picturecolors are inverted, or something like that. Then, it randomely changes back. And then it inverts again!

Its HP Envy 15. I7 720Q. Win7. No mods whatsoever. I think its gen2 as its radeon 5830.

Its not heat as it can do it just when I start it up.
I dont think its the TV either. It doenst matter if its duplicate or extended displayes. Same HDMI cable as I use on my PS3 and no problems there. No problems from the TV when using my stationery desktop. Newest ATI drivers installed.

Its driving me crazy!! Is it a driver option? What I am missing?

    yes it matters.

    gold plated? that doesn't matter

go to hardware store near you and buy some that specifically says 1.3, I think that the 1.4 version works too, since all the versions are backwards compatible

So.. got a 100$ HDMI cable, 3meters. Screen flickers sometime but it doesnt invert colors yet. I am more and more thinking its ATI/AMD driver issue, although cable is working for now..

it is indeed HDMI 1.3 or 1.4 standard? if it is not the price of the cable won't matter, it actually don't matter at all

Oh sorry. Its 1.3. Its gotta be the drivers, on the other hand why would it switch back when i change HDMI 1 / HDMI 2 on the TV. This is worrying.

    there 2 possibilities.

install the latest drivers from ATI, here a candy for you:
    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

if that don't work, try to get some other gadget that uses hdmi, test both ports in the tv, if it works alright then this could be a problem with the hdmi out of your lappie.

if it don't work in one port of your tv, but works on the other.... the problem is your tv. It might also be that you're changing the input hdmi and that it loses the signal, so that the screen will flicker at the time, since the image will go back to your lappie

Ok. So, I took a moment to view some logs. Found out that there are servel ATI related errors at random times. They mostly look like this:

And so on and so on. So maybe a email to ATI first at then HP?

    Really?

The "1.0" versions are certified to work at any resolution and bitrate that the 5830 can output through HDMI, and any resolution available to any normal, consumer level Television. The only (tangible) thing that the 1.1+ versions of HDMI support are specific audio codecs transmitted through the connector (though 1.3 does introduce some nice audio/video synching capabilities).

Granted the "1.3" version of HDMI supports higher color depths (like 30bit) but I would significantly doubt that's the problem the OP is having. However, no, I don't think that it matters for the purposes of debugging this problem, if the cable is "1.3". In fact, now that I think about it, I doubt that there's any real difference in the "1.0" cable and a "1.3" cable. Each of those versions is a spec, and dictates what the hardware at each end of the cable must support. Even then, I'm usure as to whether the 5830 supports those kinds of additions anyway...

No, a 100 dollar cable will not work any better than a 10 dollar (or a 3 dollar one) one. For a super-crummy cable, what you'll see is that the picture will work and not work at random intervals, but not that you get a weird "all green" tint now and then. The nature of how HDMI works makes it impossible for a faulty cable to show those symptoms.

BTW, you should contact HP first about this issue (assuming using the "new" 10.6 ATI drivers don't resolve the issue), and not ATI.

I am gonna definetly take this with HP/reseller. I tried to uninstall the drivers, and I am currently using the hdmi out without the ATI but with windows 7 ones, and still the picture sometimes flickers and sometimes goes "inverted" colors. Its not heat related as its really really random :(

Am I really the only one with this issue??

I'm having the same problem. My drivers are up to date, I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2494HM and a gold plated HDMI cable from WireLogic. I don't think it's the monitor itself. I've connected a PS3 to the HDMI input and have had no problems with it.

    Hi,

i have the same problem. Connecting Envy 15 G2 to phillips lcd tv (PFL7404). It looks like as hdmi handshaking problem, mostly with phillips model numbers xxx4. In one thread they suggest to try hdmi splitter or connect to AV receiver > TV. No other solutions yet :/ .

    Update:

    found this

It seems to happen only if pixel format is set to YCbCr 4:4:4 or YCbCr 4:2:2
For watching moves I have selected
RGB 4:4:4 Pixel Format Studio (Limited RGB) (or Full RGB)
Since then I don't have the problem
The defalult format in Catalyst 9.9 was set to YCbCr 4:4:4
Also if the problem appears you can switch the TV to another HDMI input and then return back because of HDMI handshake every thing is ok.

I have tried to switch off "Easy Link" of the TV but this didn't solve the problem.
I still hope this problem to be corrected in future catalyst drivers
    - In catalyst 9.9 to change the pixel format you have to:
    1. go to Desktops & Displays
    2. then right click on the icon of your TV (bottom left corner)
    3. from the menu select configure
    4. then on the DTV window go to Pixel Format tab

Hi everyone been having having this problem for a few months.

When I output my screen via HDMI to my Samsung Synchmaster 2494HM the screen flickers as well shakes, also it doesn't fit the entire screen. Help on fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Nope Still is flickering and isn't being outputted full screen either :(

Sweet never mind! Fixed both problems all I had to do was change my the output from 1080i @ 30hz to 1080p @ 60h=hz, fixed both problems.

Thanks for trying to help : ]
