I'm interested to know which games fellow Envy 15 owners are playing these days and how they are performing, whether you have a 1XXX, 2XXX or 3XXX model. If you are overclocking your GPU, how far?
Lately I've been playing Skyrim a bit on the weekends. Getting 40-60 fps in most areas, using MSI Afterburner to check frame rate at 1920x1080, all settings maxed except FXAA instead of MSAA, no overclocking. It drops down below 30fps on occasion during blizzards in exterior cells.
Also, haven't checked the frame rate yet, but ME3 and DXHR both ran very well at 1080p, with everything maxed IIRC.
Tribes Ascend was lagging a bit at 1080p, reducing the resolution to 1600x900 improved the gameplay significantly.

Been playing Diablo 3 max settings all weekend with no problem.

Even that, i still got issue with the framerate ( i think ), especially if there is swarm of enemy approaching / boss fight ...
kind of dissapointed as not able to enjoy the game when that happen,
just imagine suddenly you are surrounded by enemies zipping your health point ... or in a boss fight, i will get a hit and my health point become less then half ...
before i got respond back / mouse control on the game.
Which driver version that you use on your envy 15 ?
I got envy 15 - 3040nr and driver is 12.3RC that was located here.
AMD Catalyst 12.3 pre WHQL driver download from Guru3D.com -
I played Diablo 3 open beta, but could only get it to run smoothly on low settings at 720p. I have an envy 15 3xxx from Costco.
-
i played the d3 beta and i experienced some lag when there was 4 people and in an area where there were a lot of monsters... so i am a little worried itll lag way more in later acts because i was using low level skills..
also it overheated once... and just shut down
fps of 20-30 on average -

Tried the Sniper Elite V2 demo - really great game, I think I will buy this one. The detail and realism is pretty amazing - you have to take wind, gravity, etc. into account when lining up your shot.
With all settings completely maxed, frame rate is 25-30fps and it still seems quite playable. With AA off and Shadow Detail set to Low, the frame rate is around 40 fps, but when you use binoculars, the lack of AA is very noticeable.
The best setting seemed to be AA low and Shadow Detail low - I got around 35fps in most places.
No AA, Shadow Detail High
AA low, Shadow Detail low
Note that regardless of the setting, whenever you zoom in with sniper rifle, frame rate drops considerably, but it doesn't look bad. -
I play unreal tournament '99
played d3 beta this past weekend
Medieval 2 total war
ut99 - flawless game play (game is old)
d3 played with default settings I believe everything was on max accept the shadows were on medium .. game played flawlessly @ 1080P
medieval 2 total war is a beast of a game. Its the only thing that lags me
hp envy 3040NR bought from microcenter -
I just recently purchased an Envy 15 3040-NR last week and have been overall relatively happy with it. However, the gaming performance has been a little poorer than I expected, especially with older games such as World Of Warcraft - on recommended settings at 1920x1080, it was managing a playable, but lower than expected 30 fps. Any ideas on how to increase the framerates? I've checked hp's websites for the latest drivers (they're current). I've also heard to try to install the catalyst drivers for the 6XXXM series since its essentially a re-branded 6750 - has anyone had luck with this?
-
yes ther are many articles about installing the drivers from ati here http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ivers-hp-envy-15-3xxx-envy-17-3xxx-intel.html
version 12.3 is the most stable. I would not install 12.4 -
I have some rough stats from gaming on Crysis with High Settings for an hour.
Ambient temperature was 75F with all four corners of the machine elevated to allow better air flow. There was also a laptop cooler in use at the time as well.
Temperatures were gathered with CPUID Hardware Monitor.
The i7 2670QM hit a maximum temperature of 177F (81C) while the 7690M GPU (running ATI driver version 12.3) maxed out at 158F (70C).
Thought this might be helpful to anyone looking to compare their temps or to anyone interested in getting more info before making a purchase of the 15-3040nr.
If anyone is interested I can do similar stress tests with Prime95 and Furmark running simultaneously.

I have been having problems with playing just cause 2. Can't seem to play it with a good frame rate. Also having problems with BF2142; it doesn't seem to update or register for the game. But i do play sc2 on ultra and it's flawless.

I can't even play minecraft on low settings =( Anybody with clues on how to optimize the settings for the computer?

Haven't tried minecraft or SC2, but just about every game seems to run very well for me at 1080p.
If the frame rate is too low, you might try reducing or disabling Anti Aliasing but keeping all the other settings maxed. -
also when I try and move my laptop while playing sc2 (like from my lap to the desk) it skips and seems to bug out until quit out of the game and restart it.

If the current graphic card doesn't suit some heavy games then I guess I gotta wait for the updated Envy, which is 32xx coming. I heard a new graphic card is way much better.

I have the old 1XXX with a 5830m (weaker card than the 7690m) and I'm able to play everything I've ever tried at 1080p except for Crysis 1 and Witcher 2.
DXHR, Arkham City, Skyrim, ME3, Sniper Elite, all run great at 1080p with most settings maxed.
If you are thinking of upgrading, however, I would wait to see if there is a new model with Ivy Bridge and AMD 7000m series GPU.
