I've searched and searched, but other than a short youtube video clip I haven't found any other information regarding the differences between the 2. Can anyone help me out?

I haven't seen the Envy matte screen. I have the Envy 15 with the glossy option and it's a gorgeous screen. I can easily see the difference between 1080p and 720p. with my previous laptop it was hard to distinguish.
I think it is a personal preference and in my case I prefer the glossy screens over matte screens in general. do you have any gut preference, considering other glossy vs. matte screens you may have seen at Best Buy or the Apple store for example? Will you be using your laptop outside in the sunshine frequently? -
I thought both the antiglare and brightview screens are 1080p? Also which which is considered matte and which one glossy? I don't really have a preference, and I rarely use my laptop outside, just curious as to what the differences are.

yes they are both available in 1080p.
glossy (ultra brightview) looks like glass - i think they are both glass, of course, but it has more of the appearance of a glass television screen, for example, and it shows some reflections in the sunlight or, if you are wearing a white shirt and your desk faces a window and the laptop is playing a movie with dark shadows.
the matte/anti-glare/anti-glossy screen is a little bit darker and shows a little bit less reflections. also in my personal opinion it looks more like a reflective plastic material, rather than a glass TV screen.
I would recommend to go to a store where you can see both in person, even if they are not the Envy model or even HP brand. -
Thanks for the descriptive descriptions! I'll definitely go see them in person.

I've had both screen types, the first one had a glossy that I had to return for an exchange, the second one having a matte display.
The matte is a bit dimmer and slightly duller in terms of color. It's also not as crisp, but is still sharp enough by all means. That said, it hides reflections MUCH better than the glossy. I can sit with my back to a large window with the sun beaming straight through and still be able to see the screen pretty well, but it would have been much more difficult with the glossy.
Again, you should definitely see them in person, and also consider the situations which you'll use it in, although laptops with matte screens tend to be rather difficult to come across. Apple stores are almost guaranteed to display one or two Macbooks with matte screens, so go check them out. -
I have the Matte screen. I can seen it fine, but I do notice sometimes it seems a bit fuzzy. I can attest that it is a great screen and recommend it if you're worried about glare.
