So guys, the Envy 15 is OWNED/SORT OF...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER AND WARNING: This is HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL and for EXPERIENCED PEOPLE ONLY - IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE ON THIS, PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS! - YOU MIGHT BRICK YOUR ENVY! It goes without saying that fiddling with advanced options CAN (AND MOST LIKELY WILL!) VOID YOUR WARRANTY! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY THIS - USE IT ON YOUR OWN RISK! IF you decide to enable Advanced menu, PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH FEATURES YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND! YOU MIGHT MAKE YOUR NOTEBOOK UNBOOTABLE AND BECOME BRICK.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In case bios is broken, etc. Here is how to a tutorial for BIOS recovery with USB.
For short: Download the OEM bios here (F.2B). Then Extract the file with WINRAR. Put the Insyde.exe in your usb under these two directories:
    "\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\current"
    "\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\previous"

    Then according to HP:
"When the BIOS can't find the EFI partition or the BIOS files under the directory structure, the BIOS will try to locate the files on the external USB device under the specific directory structure.

    Or

Place the bios .fd files in USB root, rename the extension to .bin

Initiate Bios Recovery Procedure: 1. Remove battery 2. Remove power adapter 3. insert USB pendrive 4. hold Win+B 5. While holding Win+B, hold down Power button..it boots and after a few seconds it goes off again. 6. Keep holding Win+B, wait about 3 -5 seconds after the laptop has turned off, then press Power button 7. If it works, the mute led will turn orange.

Here is a compilation of the BIOSes link

THP ENVY 15-SP50600 - F.2B- Advanced Menu will allow you to access advance menu. But there's still a bug in saving the changes made in bios.

HP ENVY 15-SP50600 - F.2B - No HT, Throttle 90, NoWhiteList will raise the CPU Throttle temperature to 90 C, and also disable HyperThreading.

HP ENVY 15-SP50600 - F.2B - Only Whitelist Removed will remove whitelist only, therefore you can install any aftermarket WLAN device.

And a regular F.2B bios from HP.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just in case you decide to mod your own BIOS or any of these BIOSes crashes during the setup. If you restart or turn off, your machine will become BRICKED and it's seemingly impossible to unbrick, you may have to end up buying new motherboard like I DID. My advice is if that happens, try run the regular Bios F.2B and see if it works.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

credit for unlocking the bios goes to camiloml@bios-mod

Ah you've unlocked new options in the bios. I guess you used the insyde bios tools to enable viewing of the options?

Oh and by the way, i'm not sure that this will work for second generation envy 15s unless you modify their bios files as well - 1522.fd i think for the second gen IIRC.

it works on all Envy 15 actually. And it's much complicated then just using a software.. And I didn't do the coding. Problem now is the machine doesn't save any changes

okay now help us envy 17 users, cause taking out my SSD to update its firmware on a desktop (cause i cant set IDE Modes), is stupid.

AND i really wanna turn off HyperThreading.

AND........ I REALLY WANT TO ENABLE XMP PROFILE SO I CAN RUN MY DAMN RAM AT XMP

Fair enough. That's what i tried to use to enable ide mode... it didn't work lol. Looking at the options that you've unlocked, the one that interests me is the fan speed and CPU throttling option....

it's a common problem to most unlocked insyde bios... So far it's not fixed yet, there is something in the advance menu that stops the bios from saving. But I asked the guy to make that second bios with HT off + throttle temp as default setting, so when you flash it, it will be just like that.

Had a try with the unlocked advanced menu - couldn't save changes either.

So i tried the other bios you uploaded, but i edited it first to re-enable HT - it benefits me, i work with videos and it helps. I also enabled dts on the intel i7 and forced the northbridge to work at 1333mhz (default 1066). Is there anyway to check that these effects have had an effect?

Used sisoft sandra to run a few quick benchmarks - memory bandwidth seems to have shot up (+1gb/s). CPU and GPU scores are pretty much the same.

huh? Its in English. I don't code if that's what you mean. Download EzH2O 2.1.0.13 (not sure if i can give links to it here but Google it). open your bios file (7009.fd) and go to other>setup menu. Some of the options there will be familiar to you :). patch and save. Simples.

Bear in mind that these Bioses are made to intel's (i think) EFI specs and OEMs change them as they see fit, so there will be options that will have no effect on our envies. With that in mind and to give you a heads up - enabling fast boot and changing boot menu to advanced do not make any difference that i can see. There are plenty of options i had no clue about so i stayed well clear

I see, and yes I meant coding. There's not much to tweak beside vbios which I can't seem to find even with the advance menu

would turning off turbo mode help performance in gaming, I wonder

I can't see how turning off turbo would help. Most games cannot take advantage of our quad cores so turbo definateltely helps there by bumping up the clocks when not all four cores are not in use (2.5ghz with 2 cores, 2.8ghz with one core IIRC). Even when all four cores are in use the i7 would turbo up to 1.73ghz from 1.6ghz. Its not an option i would disable, it has no downside as far as i'm concerned.

Turning of HT might help though - but this would only really give a difference if your frame rates are low because of the CPU.

Are you using EzH2O 2.1.0.13? You need to be using this specific version for the advanced bios menu options to show. There are later versions that don't work properly with our bioses. Don't know why they don't work, just know they don't.

Yes and I was talking about in general, there's not much useful tweaks. And apparently I just bricked my Envy. BRT since you have some knowledge on this, can you find me the correct name of the .fd file for me to unbrick.. You can read what i am experiencing on my other thread

This is amazing, but unfortunately doesn't help me a bit... haha. I've been searching for a way to unlock the 17 3D's Bios forever. Since you've cracked the 15, is there hope that the 17 and 17 3D's will be next? Or does one already exist?

I've just read your other thread, so i know what you want to achieve - and I don't think that unlocking the advanced menu will help you do this. IDE mode did not work for me (actually bricked my envy) and there are no (obvious) options for increasing the throughput of the SSD. There are tweaks that you can do within windows to increase 4k writes - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...-intel-series-4-5-965-chipsets-jjb-tweak.html and http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...rformance-intel-series-5-stamatisx-tweak.html. I use JJB's tweak and it's made a difference especially when installing programs.

As for updating the firmware on your SSD - i have to take both my SSDs out of my envy and update on my desktop (sigh...)

No. Don't try this bios on your envy 17 - you will break it

On my 15, there were no options for changing key settings from the advanced bios menu. If you want to try this, you will need to dig deeper into the bios.

i wouldnt try this bios since it could brick my laptop, but i did go over to bios-mods and put in a request. i mentioned that i want to enable the eject button or be able to set the drive in the bios such that i can enable eject via the key on the kb ... if it can be done @ the bios level, im pretty sure the mod in that forum can figure it out.

i've got some progress, there is an unlocked bios now available for my laptop, but i haven't gotten confirmation on whether it has options/settings that will let me configure my eject key for the new optical drive i put in ....

i haven't tried loading the bios yet, i want to read thru things first before i try it.

for those that have done it already, are there options/settings to configure the primary optical drive/or map the dedicated eject key ?
