Just got my Envy 15 around 1-2 weeks ago, but I'm now having a problem with some weird sounds it's making. The sound comes from the top left corner of the laptop, and I think it's a fan. It's like some annoying creaking, like if the fan was slightly hitting some cable or something, I really can't describe it much since I don't talk English as my main language.
Anyway, the sound is not that loud but it's very noticeable at silent places. The sound will also stop if I put pressure on certain parts below the computer at that top left corner... It's really gotten very annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how can I stop this noise? It's gotten really frustrating and I got the laptop just recently![]()

It sounds like a major hardware problem and I'd recommend returning it.
If you bought it from HP direct, you have 21 days to return for refund. You can order another one separately, that most likely shouldn't have fan blades banging against other parts. My wife and I bought about 6 of them (returned 4, but none of them had this fan problem you described). -
Sigh. Hasn't (is that a word?) anyone had this issue?

moviemarketing pretty much said what 99.9% are going to tell you... If you are still within 21 days return it and order a new one

My DV9774 started that after its one year old (about two years ago now). Mine was the fan, makes like light chirping noise. Like blades hitting some small plastic tape or other loose material. If I observed the fan blades not spinning when its still cold there wasn't any noise, then when spinning the noise starts, so I know it is fan related.
I wasn't sure if it was a bearing, did not sound like bearings and never got any worse, it strated suddenly too. No amount of blowing or sucking it out would fix it. With the laptop off and upside down I could push on the fan blades with a toothpick and it moved a slight hair down its shaft. It would run for a while in normal silence with fan spinning, then some time later would start that noise again. Its not overly annoying, but obvious. I looked at getting a new fan and change it myself and never did. You have the fortune to be new and can exchange the laptop now. -
My problem is that I didn't order from HP Direct, since I'm from Puerto Rico and they don't ship here

I hace the same noise but on the right side of the laptop its exact same noise its the fan, but no clue at all how can I fix it
sorry

I'm thinking of opening the laptop and seeing if there is something causing the issue. Would that void my warranty, I mean: is there some way they can tell that I opened? Not like I can send it to warranty (I'm from Puerto Rico) but would still be nice to know.

I open it and on my case its the GPU fan and abdielol its the CPU Fans there are 2 fans for the CPU maybe one of them its making the noise
I dont know if opening would void the warranty but since I cant use the warranty since I live in another country I didnt care and opened up its easy (really) but you have to be carefull how to open it up? follow this guide its for a SSD install but well it shows how to open it up
YouTube - How to: HP Envy 15 SSD install
when you unscrew all the screws and lift the keyboard CAREFULLY since have 3 cables on it first take off the first one just pull it, the 2nd one its more inside its smaller and doesnt have any plastic on it its like just a tape be carefull on this and look whats up and whats down, the third one its the biggest to take it off you need to pull up 2 secure taps that have to each side with your nail gently pull one side (tap) up and then the other and that thing will go off easy
Then you can remove your keyboard fully and you can continue
I notice that my noise comes from the GPU fan its the Heat sink that its making some rattling noise I tryed everything really loosen it a bit, even taking it off!! all that stuff and nothing
but you can try it maybe you can fix it! maybe its just a loosen screw
Here are some pics of it to see whats inside of the Envy
This picture I call it My fully naked Envy
Sorry for the bad picture quality crappy cellphone camera
I will PM you to explain you better in spanish -
Thanks for the PM and the pics jatata! I probably end up doing the same thing and opening the laptop while being VERY VERY careful, since I can't use the warranty anyway

Opening the case does not void the warranty.
My wife spilled a little bit of tea on her laptop and it was fried. We were instructed to open the case by the Tech Support phone rep. We opened it up to clean it and test all the memory sticks and in fact we lost one of the little screws and it was still no problem with the warranty. we sent it in on a Tuesday and we received it back from HP on Friday of the same week completely fixed, with new motherboard.
Are you 100% sure you can't use the warranty in PR? Did you try to register? -
Yeah, I couldn't even buy the notebook from HP Direct using a billing address in the US. They said they needed a credit card with the billing address on the states if I wanted to buy from them and when I told her I would just buy it through other places she said that I would still need an address withing the states to use the warranty. I'll try calling again though, maybe the person who talked to me wasn't in a good mood. Anyway, the noise is gone all on it's own since yesterday. I thought it would come back but still no noise today...
