    Hi
I was wondering what the performance difference is between the Intel Core i7-620M and the . Intel Core i7-820QM. I always thought the quad core 820QM was faster, but on the hp website the dual core 620M is more expensive.
Is the 620M faster? And is it faster for specific things only?
    thanks

I believe this is a pricing slip up done by HP. As far as I know, the higher the product number on the i7's the more performance. The 620m is an Arrandale with an IGP, and is only dual-core. Granted, the higher average clock speed, the quad core must be faster.

Yes, the i7-620m's price seems to be a screw up by HP. With the Dell Studio XPS 16, the i5-520m -> i7-620m upgrade is $180, HP is charging $650 for the same thing.

If hp drop the price of 620m, I guess a lot of people who have ordered i5 will cancel or return it.

I dunno... I bought mine with a $300 off coupon. It wouldn't be worth it to me to pay an extra $400 or more (since the recent base price increase) to just get a 620.

If it was there when I ordered and priced correctly, I think I would have sprung for the 620m. But yeah, now with the $100 base price increase (and the $300 coupon), I don't think so.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure I'll be happy with the 540m, though. 3MB of cache isn't really that bad.

The 620M retails for less than $75 over the price of the of the 540M. HP is gouging on this one.
