Antiglare is generally the more expensive option.... in this case it's the cheaper. What gives?
Anyways.... help me decide please.
The screen will be used for photo editing so accurate colors and good contrast are a must.
I do fair bit on on site editing and that sometimes means outdoors so antiglare would be great, but I'd rather hunt down dark shades with the glossy if it means superior display.
Inputs would be great. Thanks
Oh and any advice on ordering? Is ordering by phone better? Lots of people seem to do this instead of ordering online. May I inquire as to why?

If you're a professional, I'd get an SXPS with the rgbLED. To my knowledge (and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) the Envy LCD isn't rgbLED and so isn't going to be quite as good. Having said that, I do plenty of web design, but not as much on the 'design' side and so I only needed 'good' and not 'great.'
Anti-glare v. glossy is often a matter of preference. For your purposes I'd say glossy. You aren't going to be doing professional-quality color matching in direct sunlight anyway. 'Superior display' depends entirely on what you're using it for. Contrast and brightness will be superior on the glossy. I'm not sure that the actual color accuracy is any different between the two. -
Getting a nice rgbLED would be fantastic but I have some bad experiences with Dells.
And yes, the on site stuff is all quick touch ups all the heavy lifting would be at home on the Apple Display.
Thanks for your reply. -
I don't understand why everybody loves glossy screens. Yes the contrast is improved in total darkness, where you're going to see the backlight bleed so it's useless.
I've just fixed a friend's Fujitsu laptop and yes it had a glossy screen too, but it was "reasonably" glossy, i liked it. On my two HPs the displays are mirror glossy. They are useless under any direct light, normal room lighting is enough to disturb the image. If you do any graphics work on it please get matte and antiglare, you'll thank me later. -
Yeah, I'd take Matte any day of the week. Less eye strain too, at least for me.

What puzzle me is people complain Envy isn't E2E, but at the same time they buy Matte instead of glossy. Isn't E2E glossy only because of the glass?
Complain about something, but end up buying something different. -
-
I don't care about E2E. Particularly as they said the reason they didn't go with it was weight - I don't want the Envy any heavier than it is. It was probably 'cost' too, and it's expensive enough.
I've never had an E2E 15" notebook. I'm sure it would be great to have one ... but it's tough to get unhappy about missing something I've never had and don't need! -
I've had both, and I chose the glossy. I read all the stuff about how great matte is and everything. I was really exited about it until I saw how dull the image looked. A little lifeless compared to the glossy. Took it outside and it was hardly viewable. Not nearly bright enough. I like how it didn't reflect things though.
A guy that had both measured them with his calibrator:
Glossy = 220nits
Matte = 170nits
Also, G1 had brighter screens (more around 280-300 nits I believe). -
Not everyone likes bright colors, bright isn't necessarily natural. I don't say matte is great but it sure beats the heck out of seeing your face on the screen instead of your work.
I still use a CRT monitor for any graphics work. And i love it. -
I was only talking brightness for outside because the Envy 15 matte screen is not bright enough outside.
-
I'd really like to learn how you can use a glossy screen outside. No matter how bright it is (my DV5's screen is too bright, and it doesn't help any).
-
Well I took the matte outside and TBH can't see how the glossy could be much worse. It was so hard to see or do anything. I think the glossy with a box around it to limited reflection would be the best.
-
i dont know about you people but i have had nothing but glossy on my last 3 laptops and never had a problem inside or out.
-
Ended up getting glossy after seeing how vibrant the colors were at the store. Yes, maybe not as natural, but its nice XD
-
In fact, i'm wondering when in the world are they going to do something about this. My DV5 came stock with one dust speck on the left side of the screen. Now there are three. My DV9000 has a small bug stuck at the bottom. Wonder why can't they glue the layers together.
Envy 15 should I go matte or glossy?
