After viewing so many threads here about the ultimate Envy 15, I still have some questions pending for answers.
I5 would be perfect, but it comes with no USB 3.0 ports. This is a huge drawback imo. About the screen, of course having a 1080p LED would be extremely juicy, but will it cause tired eyes more easily? Should I turn to 1366 * 768? And could anyone tell me the exact difference between anti-glare screen and brightview one?
Many thanks.

I had a 15 i5 and found it to be a perfect machine aside from a touch pad that was not sensitive enough for my tastes.
Personally I couldn't care less about USB 3.0
I'm actually considering reordering one haha. -
I wouldn't recommend the lower-res screen. You can increase text size in Win7 very easily and I don't find that it causes any eye strain.
The anti-glare screen has a coating to ... well, reduce glare. It's not as bright or as sharp as the brightview screen, but it's still very good. The glossy screen will show more reflections and glare, but is brighter and sharper. So it depends on your preference. I had the Matte screen and liked it quite a lot, but after taking it around to where I usually work, glare isn't really an issue, so I opted for the glossy on my reorder.
I also don't care about USB3. It has eSATA which is preferable for external storage in my book anyway. -
Thank you guys for such info rich replies so quickly.
I'd go glossy screen as I'll use it in house for most time. eSATA does make things up to a certain extent...and considering i7 is that hot, I'd go well with i5 without USB 3.0.
Here I come, Envy 15! -
u don't need usb 3.0. it's still really new, and there's nothing out there that really supports it or benefits from it.
1080p matte or glossy are both good. i'm using the glossy, and it does reflect a lot in daylight. the matte is a better alternative imo -
Don't forget, there are single-cable eSATA drive enclosures that are compatible with all Envy's. Even better than USB3... it's native SATA
That's the only reason to need USB3 speeds anyway, is storage.

Really? the Envy's eSATA port provides power?
-
Yes its a esata/USB port
-
Can you guys recommend a cable to use for the eSATA / USB combo port? The 2.5" external enclosure I have normally uses a USB cable for power and eSATA for data.
If something like this what I'm looking for? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270246 -
It's not just the cable. You need an enclosure that will handle USB/eSATA combined (this one comes with the appropriate cable):

Yes, it powers USB, but it does not power eSATA.
There is no such thing as powered eSATA yet.
I could have sworn in the first part of his message he says he has an enclosure like that already? -
Umm yes there is. its a USB/esata port.. just like the ENVY has its used to power small external drives. Just thumb drives at the moment. -
Well you are right with the ENVY providing a combined port that supplies power, but it really takes in from the USB.
But eSATA itself doesnt provide power.
Sorry for the confusion. -
Thanks, just ordered one along with a 250 GB hard drive to go with it.

If you want to wait a bit...the Envy 17 will be out soon.
We got to play around with it a few days ago and it has 1-USB 3.0 port on the side, and an internal optical drive.
It will be worth the wait! -
How long is the Bit???
