Hey guys. I recently used the "windows upgrade anytime" feature of the factory OS to upgrade my home premium to windows 7 ultimate. but for some reason my laptop locks up at the start up log on screen. has anyone had this issue? im consulting with the hp tech representatives now but so far they dont seem to have a clue. I guess ill be returning this.

a temporary fix ive noticed is to disable my ATI hardware (in the device manager) under safe mode. only then i can log on normally. So far i know its not the drivers.

Edit: I cant even do a fresh format and install win7 ult-, it works fine up until i install the drivers for the ATI 5830.

Are you using HP's 5830 drivers or ATI's?

Try asking in the owner's lounge.
