Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find a similar thread. Purchased the Envy 15-3040 Beats in Jan. In late Feb the CPU began spiking at random times. Seems more frequent lately.

Working or playing (WoW client is all that's currently installed), performance slows. Task manager will show CPU util go from 7-10% all the way up to 100% and then hover from 65-100% for anywhere from 1-3 minutes. PC is severely slow or useless during these times and I'm usually disconnected from any Web services I might be using.

Scroll thru task manager as best I can when this happens but so far, even with "show all processes from all users," I don't see a process or even a group of processes that could account for that much spike.

Someone suggested that it's either a driver issue or Windows screwing up core parking. But this isn't happening on my other Win7 boxes so I'm inclined to think it's an HP issue...just have no idea what.

Sucks at critical points during game usage, but it also happens during online meetings and phone calls. Can't have that.

Anyone have any idea what that's about? Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

Run Process Explorer. Do you see any particular process spike in usage? If so, which process is it?

I'm having the exact same problem with my 3040nr configuration as well. I even sent mine in for a repair (which they ended up leaving it worse than before; they didn't even replace the CPU)

[Also, I've been lurking around these ENVY 15-3xxx posts since I got the notebook back in Feb. and I finally decided to make an account to post :p]

I have also been having the same issue. I reinstalled windows. put in a new 256gb SSD. Still same issue. Found something online about the changing the WINS in the network settings. Tried that, seemed to help a little bit. I still get the spike, just not as frequently. i would post the link but forgot where I found that info sorry. If anyone else hears anything let me know!
