I bought an Envy 15 Touchsmart (15t-j100) and overall I think it is a great laptop for the price. Having said that, I also have to say that the screen is absolutely terrible. Horizontal viewing angles is not too bad but vertical viewing angles are absolutely awful. It is practically impossible regardless of where you place your eyes to see uniform and not washed colors throughout the entire screen. If you position yourself to see proper colors on the top part of the screen you see distorted/washed out colors on the bottom and vice versa. This makes this laptop totally inadequate to do any work where some degree of color accuracy is needed. Calibration does not help. This is too bad because otherwise it is a nice and decently fast machine.
I was wondering if it is possible to replace the original TN LCD with an IPS of similar resolution and maintain the touch capability. Has anybody attempted this and if the answer is yes can you detail how you did it?
Thanks

I've got a J028tx and am also unhappy with the screen. It's one of the downsides acc. to reviews and it seems that all envy's are affected in this way. I would be interested in replacing my screen on it as well, but if not done properly it will look crap.
