I received my laptop today (Monday, 7/15) and about 1-2" of the right side of the touchscreen is unresponsive/dead. I'm unable to swipe the charms menu, and I tested going into the Paint program and there is a definite "wall" where the dead part of the touchscreen begins. In the image below, the green line is with the touchpad and the red lines are with the touchscreen.

I saw a post in a SlickDeals forum where another user had the same issue and returned his laptop. My next stop will be calling HP. In the mean time, has anyone else encountered this issue or have any information about it?

Here's the configuration I ordered from the HP site.

    • 4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ Processor

    • 1TB 5400RPM Hybrid Hard Drive

I haven't personally experienced this. What panel do you have? Check with HWinfo: Download HWiNFO

Interesting, I'm wondering if they had some QA issues on the screens with a certain batch if somebody experienced the exact same thing. It should be independent of other specs, nothing to do with the processor/gpu/memory would be causing that. Having the touchscreen feature requires an extra panel and that's where the failure must be. Definitely call HP and get a replacement here, that is unless you don't care about the touch screen feature and want to just ask them for money back to refund the cost of the screen upgrade and then an extra $50 or so as an inconvenience refund.
