Do you guys think the Envy line will come out with Sandy Bridge any time soon?

I would love to get an Envy 17 3D with a Sandy Bridge chip. But I don't want to wait forever. The heat produced from i7 processors scares me sometimes which is why I'd like to get Sandy Bridge.

Will the Envy 17 have to include a dedicated GPU anyway? If so, it could be that a lot of heat will be generated from that also, even though the main CPU is SB.

Do you need a dedicated GPU? Do you do vector graphics a lot? If not, is there an option to get Envy 17 without a dedicated GPU?

I believe HP will come with Envy 15 with SB very soon to fill the gap between 14-17 and I'm waiting for that :D

An envy 16 would be perfect.
Sandy Bridge + 6930M (sequel of the 5830)

    Might come in Q1 '11

SB will be due to Q1 2011.

The envy line is the first to be refreshed always, and it follows the rule of having the latest hardware that is available, see the:

    envy 15: 4830, 3 months latter 5830

envy 14: fast adoption of the cpu changes, from the older 540m to the newer 580m

So yeah we are probably going to get something soon, it depends if they'll update all things together or go to a one, by one basis. i.e. SB first them the new gpus

you guys have to remember that Intel is already producing SB since Q3 of this year, the launch will be at Q1 2011.

the delay is for manufacturers get their mobo right on time of the launch.

I'd be willing to sacrifice the dedicated GPU for a more efficient and faster chip.

I don't think the i7 is really suitable for laptops at this point in time but I really would like to buy a laptop soon. And since Black Friday is coming up, this may be the best time to get a good deal.

To wait or not to wait? And If I do wait, how long?

Seriously, dvd drive is such a waste of space! It compromises the entire design of the laptop.

This is why the Acer Timeline 3820TG runs cooler than the 4820TG, which weighs more and is thicker!

Agreed. For the majority of people the DVD drive is a waste of space since most of media is transferred using USB sticks/ external HDD's now.
If they would add another fan/ battery in there Id be satisfied.
