I am considering to buy an Envy 17, but since I've read about issues with overheating, bad customer service and underclocked CPUs, I having second thoughts. Especially because some users here were extremly disappointed of the product.

Are these problems still present with the new model 2001 eg?

If so, could you maybe suggest some alternatives to this notebook. I am looking for a notebook with a good display and according to reviews I've read recently, HP notebooks are among the best - at least concering this aspect.

I have not had any experience with HP Envy 17, but you may be interested in taking a look at the Envy 17 owner's thread.

Also, an HP laptop that is similar to the Envy 17 through size and performance. It is a business class notebook so the build quality is above average in comparison to consumer class notebooks.

That's the old thread. You should check out the sticky threads at the top of the main HP forum.

    - As for Envy 17 laptops, their heat issues are pretty much resolved in the most recent versions using Sandy Bridge CPU's.

    - Customer support is fine for a company of their size IMHO. Sure you will get the first level tech support you wish you could bypass, but show me a PC company who hasn't outsourced to India this function?

    - Disappointment is relative. I'm currently remorseful over spending $630 on the SSD+HDD configuration, but the laptop itself is awesome.
