On battery whenever I use balanced or power saver, battery life barely increases but performance becomes unusable. On high performance, even on battery power, the performance is awesome.

For example, I'm typing this right now on balanced and the text is lagging about 2-3 seconds behind the keypress. Browsing the internet is ridiculously slow and opening programs is even worse.

I checked the advanced power profiles and min 5% processor state to max 100% processor state is default across both. No idea what's causing this.

The second I shift to high performance, the computer runs great.

Also, CPUZ is not showing the processor clock move above 200mhz on balanced, which I think is the issue.

Please help guys, this is driving me crazy.

Please post screenshots showing your task bar tray area, your task manager showing all processes (you might need to press the show processes from all users button), and whether you did a clean install once you got your Envy 17.

Metril I understand the logic behind posting the processes, but I'm not a computer noob. I did a clean install and killed everything necessary from start up. I can confidently say it has nothing to do with running processes.

(Sorry, I should have mentioned all this).

This has me stumped. There is NO reason I can think of for this kind of subpar battery performance other than severe throttling. =(

Once again, I think the processor is downclocking WAY too much. It does not move above 200mhz with CPUZ open and attempting to use the computer.

In high performance, it will ramp up between 1.6 and above depending upon application.

The minimum processor speed shouldn't be 200 MHz. The lowest is should clock is 900 MHz or the core should just turn off.

Have you updated your bios to the latest version? I thought this issue was fixed. If not, give ThrottleStop a try. It can be used to get your CPU running at its designed speed.

Under advanced power settings go to processor power management > system cooling policy > on battery ... change that to active and it will fix it. I had the same problem. Great HP quality control comes through again! Not... =P
