After reading way too many posts and laptop reviews I've settled on picking up a HP Envy 17. However, with the specs I'm looking to get I can get a similar 3D model for just $70 more. Without any further knowledge that seems like it would be worth it for me, even though I will probably get limited use out of it.

I tried to do searches here and other places to find out the key differences between the two, but didn't have much luck. The only thing I was able to find out for sure was the 3D screen operates at 120hz, as opposed to the standard 60d for the 2D version. Other than the obvious 3D capability and the 120hz screen, are there any other hardware difference between the two? Does the screen have similar brightness and color reproduction as the 2D (while in 2D operation) Assuming you are sticking with 2D activities, is there any difference in battery life?

    Thanks for any assistance.

It's worth it at that price, the extra refresh rate should ensure you never ever get any ghosting during such things as movie watching. That rarely happens on laptop LCD screens these days, but a faster refresh rate never hurts. Since this is specific to the Envy 17 I'm going to move to the HP Envy forum where you might get more responses!
