My newly purchased Envy 17 is missing keystrokes. It will go through distinct periods where it will drop keystokes and sometimes the backspace button will stop functioning.

There does not appear to be a pattern.

Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

    Thanks,
    -Mel

Find an older BIOS to flash. The newer ones seem to introduce this problem.

HP support walked me through a bios rollback (i think). Did not fix the problem.

I had this same problem and oddly enough the thing that fixed it for me was not upgrading or downgrading to a different version of the BIOS but was doing a BIOS recovery. This worked for me on my Envy 15 3xxx machine.

So first upgrade your machine back to the latest BIOS. Then shutdown your machine, then hold down the Windows and B button while you hit the power button. Hold all those buttons for about 10 seconds and let go. You screen will appear blank for at least a good 30 seconds but just wait. It will then do a BIOS recovery and you should hopefully be good to go

Let me know how that goes.

Well, HP is sending me a box for me to send it in for repairs.
I'd like them to go aead and try and fix it so my problem is on record with them.

Curious, how old of a BIOS are you talking about? Cause I have F.05 on there right now, did the bios recovery thing, it worked for a little bit, then it started crapping out again... I've been using my small netbook (Acer Chromebook) for emails and that kind of thing because the envy's is too unreliable...

I refreshed to an old bios, did the recovery thing. No help.

Then i went to f.05, no help.

Ended up sending it back for a refund.
