So I know the Envy is no gaming machine but Dam! In campaign mode playing at 1920x1080 on the lowest setting ("low") I get 30-34fps just walking around. I have the 6850 enabled (Latest Driver I could find was 8.820.5.1000), HP Coolsense set to "performance", laptop running in High Performance mode, and nothing else running on the machine except fraps. Anyone else having better luck?
-
I was pretty unimpressed with the demo, I know that AMD has beta drivers for bf3 out and people have said they've seen a pretty good performance boost with em, maybe we'll get something here soon?
-
guys.. just download the latest drivers from HP.. then!!! download the latest 11.10 preview 3 drivers from ati, and itll install fine. Im able to play bf3 at 1080p on HIGH and its amazing
but make sure you have the ati gpu active before doing the driver installation. -
-
But when you install ATI Drivers you loose the ability to change brightness levels with the brightness buttons. HOWEVER the quick fix to that is switching to the discreet GPU then you can change the brightness levels. then just switch back to the ATI GPU lol.
Someone suggested installing back to the hp drivers just to change the brightness. are you retarded? -
Hay Guys,
That sounds great, however the AMD download says i dont have the correct hardware. (Damn HP) I tried it the manual look-up way and the auto-detect way! What should I do and what issues should I expect?

I appreciate your help thanks! Could you be more specific on your fps quotes. You said in an earlier post that you get between 21-26fps on the standard BF3 "High" setting in 1080P. But is that happening indoors? outdoors? In the middle of a shout out? Because I get that exact same fps indoors at 1080P with my current older drivers, so I'm not seeing the point in upgrading to 11-10? -
---------------1080p---------------------
ULTRA @ 1080p 120hz: 17-19fps (Worst Case Scenario) 21-25 (Best Case Scenario)
HIGH @ 1080p 120hz: 20-26fps (Worst Case Scenario) 25-29 (Best Case Scenario)
MEDIUM @ 1080p 120hz: 29-36 (Worst Case Scenario) 35-45 (Best Case Scenario)
LOW @ 1080p 120hz: 35-40 (Worst Case Scenario) 40-47 (Best Case Scenario)
---------------720p----------------------
ULTRA @ 720p 120hz: 24-29fps (Worst Case Scenario) 30-35 (Best Case Scenario)
HIGH @ 720p 120hz: 34-37fps (Worst Case Scenario) 35-50 (Best Case Scenario)
MEDIUM @ 720p 120hz: 47-55 (Worst Case Scenario) 50-60 (Best Case Scenario)
LOW @ 720p 120hz: 57-60 (Worst Case Scenario) 60-61 (Best Case Scenario)
------------------------------------------
So in terms of scenario, worst being a 64 player map, in middle of action with explosions and vehicles. Best case scenarios in buildings or in jet or helicopter doing flybys.
Now for your opinion on not seeing a reason to update to the latest drivers. I should have you know the major reason to updating is these drivers were optimized for battlefield 3 in mind (And RAGE). you'll notice a major jump in fps once you update. and of course all the other optimization that come with ANY updated driver. And honestly i never understood why you wouldn't want to update just cause you're okay with what you have now. If its free and gives you more for your buck. the positives far out weigh the negatives.
P.S- It should be noted that even in low settings the game still looks fantastic. I love the work they put into this game. i Love the frostbite 2 engine. -
Holy crap, THX alot !!!

you got any other performance tweaks for the envy17?
-
Am I correct in assuming that when installing the new drivers I should unselect the "install CCC" option?
-
-
Just in case you guys aren't aware, Origin has been getting a lot of flack lately. You can check out the rating BF3-PC gets on amazon.com. I think this link would also be a good read. [Various] Battlefield 3 outrage in Germany - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net
-
ok, so I am using msi afterburner to monitor all GPU activity. here is what i found. they under clocked our GPUs.
Core Clock is locked @ 300Mhz
Memory Clock is locked @ 400Mhz
Voltage 0.9v
!!!
the actual numbers should be...
Core Clock @ 575Mhz
Memory Clock @ 900Mhz
Voltage @ 1.1-1.2v -
The 17t-2000 has the same HD6850m as the 2100?
I have a 17t-2100 3D and it's 6850's default specs are 575/900 @ 0.95V. It's currently overclocked to 720/1200 using Sapphire TriXX.
It runs stable but gets to 90C under heavy load. I had it shutdown the PC once due to overheating, but I was playing with it on my lap and was partially blocking the fan intake. -
I dont even want to over clock. I just want the standard clock speeds for the GPU.
-
I tried to use msi afterburner but the envy ignores the changes. Did you install TriXX from website? Did the Envy restist at all?
Were there any issues? THX for the help, alot of people would love this info!!! -
I downloaded it direct from Sapphires website; installed without a hitch. It's simple to use and even has a desktop widget.
https://www.sapphireselectclub.com/ssc/TriXX/TriXX.aspx -
Well that don't work. My monitor shows the locked clock speed even after I used TriXX.
Afterburner is more feature rich, try it.
-
-
Afterburner doesn't have any extra functionality in regards to over/underclocking settings for our GPU compared to TriXX. Can still only change core and memory clocks. The other features it has I don't really care about. TriXX has a cleaner UI and it's working perfectly so I'll stick with it.
What's the BIOS version of your 6850? Mines version 012.020.000.051.040091. -
download from Guru3D.com -
Its good to at last find a thread with a similar issue to mine eba0922.
Have just got machine, and was expecting goods things from BF3 - so naturally dissapointed. Have tried other drivers, I think wrong ones - so I did time restore to go back to square one.
Can anyone please remind me of the new drivers I will need and the process to install them - really would appreciate it.
Note my DxDiag below.
Thanks in advance all....might at last get some good help here.

Would really appreciate help in finding new drivers and help to correctly uninstall/clean and install.
thanks -
You need to completely uninstall ALL ATI driver software. After it's uninstalled restart and install the graphics driver package from HP.....
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53274.exe
Then retart again and install the latest 11.11 ATI Mobility drivers (without uninstalling the HP drivers)....
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-11_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe -
That's great thanks.
Do I need to use any specific software to remove the ati drivers ?.
If not how will I know what to remove?.
A the moment I have the factory old HP drivers, so do I wipe these - and follow your instructions by adding the newer HP drivers and then the ATI ones?
Tks -
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/catalyst_11.11_hotfixes/amd_catalyst_11.11a_windows_vista_7.exe
If all this doesn't help, you will need to update your BIOS. There is a possibilty that you are using the old BIOS that doesn't allow for full CPU usage causing the game to stutter. -
Thanks for this, under the notes for this new driver it reads on the AMD site "Switchable Graphics enabled notebooks", is laptop not switchable. Sorry to sound so stupid....Tks -
Hi - can you give me some idiot guide as to how to remove all ATI drivers before I install the new HP drivers.....tks -
I assume you have the standard HP drivers on your laptop?!
First make sure they are not out of date by installing the latest HP drivers and make sure you are plugged into power.
(We won't bother unistalling the old drivers)
So install the latest offical HP drivers:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp53001-53500/sp53274.exe
After you are done: Restart.
Now you install the package I provided ontop of the just installed drivers.
Done!
Now you need to update your BIOS. Go to HPs drivers and support page, find your model, and the BIOS update.
Install that and make sure you have full battery and are connected to the AC.
This should be enough to make BF3 run properly. I am currently playing at native resolution on medium settings because it heats up quite a bit.
I also turn down my CPU to make sure it doesn't heat up. But this is my experience. First try the steps that I gave you. I know that BF3 runs alright on 1600x900 on High.
BTW. I did not uninstall drivers myself since I was lazy, but it worked and I do not see it as an issue. -
Hi - thanks for help, I need all I can get.
I installed Newest HP drivers - from link given. Version sp53274 (June 2011). This installed ok, but did when installing say many of the installing items already exisited. Strange version already installed was the March 2011 version. I told it to contine and install.
I rebooted and installed Catalyst 11.11a.
Rebooted.
Back into BF3, and no frame rate improvement....
Should I remove all and start again with Driver Sweeper??? or just throw the laptop off a tall building...
So frustrating.
Below is my newest DxDiag in the hope someone can help me out....
Thanks again.

I have checked the driver in device manager #
For and for
:AMD HD 6800 - it reads 8.911.1.0 / 18/11/2011
:Mobile Intel - 8.820.5.1000 / 31/03/2011
Does this mean all is installed ok ?? if why no improvement...
tks -
Further to this (sorry) please note an image of the processes running and BF3 settings. I am not getting an average above 30fps.
tks again - any help really appreciated.

Just installed BF3 to see what all the fuss is about.
With the "Auto" settings I get 25-30fps. If I tweak them a bit by turning motion blur off and turn AA down to 8x it stays closer to 30fps. This is with running 1920x1080 @ 120hz fullscreen. I'm also running overclocked 720/1200.
If you can't get over 30fps @ 1280x720 with low settings, then I'm not sure what the problem is. -
ok, well thanks anyway.
What is strange is that Auto settings do take me to Medium/to high settings. But it will not run well that way, hence my issue.
If anyone can provide further help - it will be much appreciated. -
lol I'm on a 5830m and getting better fps than you guys.. You should not expect to play games on laptop at full HD

Here are my CCC settings: AA & AF Use Application Settings, Tessellation 4x or 8x (64x makes no differences and reduces fps when zoom), A.I High Quality, Mipmap High Quality. Here is my userconfig and in game settings:
That gives me 50+ fps. I haven't figured out a sweetspot yet. Since some settings make no difference
