Guys, I'm gonna go nuts today with the resolution stuff and the Hertz refresh rate.

    1. First, is there really any reason for us to mess/change with the refresh rates on our Envy 17 3Ds? If we play 3D games and 3D movies, do they automatically change the Hertz to 120?

    2. I wanted to try my new lap by playing Star Wars II Attack of the Clones on my parents HDTV. Of course its not Bluray...that comes out next year (hopefully we have some Star Wars fans!) :p Anyway, I wanted to fill up the screen, so I put my Envy 17 3D to 1920x1080 resolution. I played with the Hertz @60 and @120. When I played it on the HDTV through the HDMI cable...the movie lagged!!! I was like, WHAAA? Why does a movie lag? I know games do, but movies?

So I changed the resolution to 1600x900 and the movie played much smoother. The Hertz on the lap @60 and @120 did not make the difference in getting rid of lag, only the resolution. So..... How do I make the DVD movie work best? Just stick to lower res, and the Blurays play at 1920x1080 full screen right?

    3. Also, when I tried to play the movie I put my laptop like I said on 120 Hertz, but the HDTV showed that it is only gonna play it @60 Hertz why? Does it know its not a Bluray, or is it just because its not 3D? SO... do only 3D movies and games use 120 Hertz? Thanks guys in advance. ;)

    KJ

    1. When I play games for example, black opts and need for speed I can see a HUGE difference when I put the display on 60Hz and 120Hz.

2 and 3. I think it has to do with your HDTV? what fresh rate does the tv have and resolution determines the quality output id think. also try to extend the display instead of duplicate the screen, thats what I did and played 2012.mkv with vlc player and it looked amazing on the tv.

Im no expert but thats my experience.

sp dp upi change the 60/120 Hertz in the menu of the game itself, or are you changing it on the desktop by right click and then change resolution and advanced? Does 120Hz make the game slower or faster?
