I ordered on 3/1 with estimated build date of 3/23. As of 3/3 the machine has been "In Production"

Is anyone further along than this?

Ha! I wish mine was that far. I just ordered yesterday and mine still says "order accepted" In the back of my mind I have to wonder if it will go into production.... I should know by tonight I hope.

Update: As of 2:05PM the HP site states my order has been dropped off at factory.

Did any of you have the previous generation Envy17 3D? Would be nice with a comparison once you get your hands on the new one.

    No...

I currently have a Dell Inspiron E1505. Did play with the Asus G73SW for a few days...returned due to faulty GTX460M card that flickered like an old time movie...AND Sandy Bridge issue. I can only compare to that, once I get it. Kind of apples and oranges, though. The 3D features, etc...put the Envy 17 3D way beyond the capabilities of the Asus. Only edge Asus will have is 3D gaming...GTX460M is about 15-20% faster than HD6850...but even then...not sure I consider that an overwhelming advantage.

Yet I believe there is a 3d asus g73 and the g74 is also 3d capable. Sorry to just jump in, I am looking to buy either the new Envy 173d, asus g74 or ... alienware r3 and can't decide. Other tthan the gpu and cpu are there any other changes for the envy (cooling)?

The G74 isn't supposed to ship until May or so, from what I read. The big differrence in the machines is gonna be Nvidia vs. AMD. I am an Nvidia person...but did the Envy 17 3D, in spite of it. If I am gonna do heavy duty gaming...will save that for my desktop with i7 950, 6 GB DDR3 at 1600 Mhz and GTX 580 SC. The Envy will see some gaming...but mainly Multimedia. The GPU in the Envy isn't all that far away from the GTX460M. Perhaps, if you have some time...wait for the G74...it is going to ship with the GTX560M. But expect to spend more $$$ for it. Even the G73SW is gonna run more...when you add the 3D element to it...the cost is beyond that of the Envy. I get mine delivered on Monday 3/14. Supposed to have Coolsense...let's see if Hardware or software...

Guess it will come down to what is important to you...
