    I bought an Envy 17 about a week ago from my sister without going through the options and bought stock from the CTO page.

    I realize though that that means 900p screen. I am thinking about what I can do......

    Is 1080p very much better or should I just keep the 900p screen. My sister does not know much about computers so I don't think it would matter and she just wanted pretty and reliable notebook.

    But then again, for 1000+ should I do something to get the 1080p???

    //edit

    and the Envy 17 refresh too is there to consider........ ahh . but I need the laptop in my hands before Jan 1.

    If she just wants a simple laptop I really don't think she would mind a 900p screen. Just know that with a 1080p screen there is more real estate, but that also means text/icons/etc are a lot smaller as well. I personally prefer 1080p but for my personal computer. If I were in your shoes I'd just get her the 900p as she wouldn't know or feel the difference. Out of curiosity what is the cost to upgrade to the 1080p screen?

    yea thats what im guessing. I mean I called her and she does not know what resolution is. after explaining, she thought when icons are bigger it was better screen. when I said 1080p would make them smaller and let you see more of a webpage, she did not want tiny text and icons.... yea im gonna stick with 900p.

    You can always increase the size of the text and icons on a smaller resolution; so this is a non issue.

    Considering how everything is standardizing on 1080p, if you wanted to future proof your purchase, you'd trade it in for the better screen. Then again, if this is a throw-away purchase (ie. use it for 2 years and get rid of it), then stick with it. A 1600x900 screen isn't that bad.
