Well, i would love to hear what people have to say. I am hearing a lot that it is not worth buying sandy bridge especially when its first released, and when the prices are inflamed.
That sounds true. Or is that a misinformed user opinion?
Another quote from "lovelaptops".
Only big difference i am waiting for is the cooling system on the new Envy. But that might just be a big marketing scheme, and it could not even be fixed at all. What are your opinions? Would you wait for SB, and pay a high price, or buy the Old Envy 17 3D?

i would like to hear more suggestions too...
just use that 500 off coupon and ordered an envy 14.... if it's not what I want I'll just return it (the 1st envy 14 I got has a blue screen the 1st day i'm using it) at the same time i'm also waiting for the new envy 17....
i always prefer to have better screen and better graphics card~ though i'm not a heavy gamer (just once a while), i do lots of circuit modeling and data processing... if I can get SSD on envy 17 under 2K, i'll go with it... -

I am not even much of a gamer as well, i hardly use my laptop for anything other than WoW, surfing the web, and watching movies (which i barely do).
I'm not sure if its going to be worth it for me to put up a hefty price on the Envy SB. The 17 3d seems more of a fit for me, but i got time to wait it out -
Well, as you might have guessed, I'm a "little" biased when it comes to talking about the Envy 17 3D....lol, just look at my pic to the left!
All I know is rumors are now saying that the new refresh SB edition of the Envy 17 and 3D models will perform much better than once believed.... so..eh, you can return the Envy 14 if you bought it now with the coupon later....within your 21 day period.... Just pay attention this Thursday, Jan. 20 for possible news from HP regarding the Envy line and SB! Who's excited!?#?@?@ Hahah

Its just something I read around NBR.... so yeah, let's see what the HP meeting on Thursday will reveal if anything new...

Question - will there be more SB quad core i7's being added to the SB line in the coming month's?
What about any other additions that they may be added or updated for the Envy 17 model? -
any thoughts on the starting price on SB envy 17/3D?
i hope it's around 1599 or lower..... possible? -
That would be very interesting if it does start lower such as $1499..... But I would not be surprised if it starts at $1699.... I can't see it up or down more than $100, at most $200 up... It is anyone's guess.
KJ -
My guess would be between 1799-1999 for the 3d one. Wouldn't be surprised if the 3d broke 2000 and the 17 was between 1799-1999.
Seems to me that people would pay the above prices, especially if its going to run "cooler" than the others. -
soooo... unless HP wants to cater to a very small crowd....
KJ -
if 3D version starts over 2000.... I'm curious about the starting configuration
-
Idk that was a ballpark guess, since im from canada on their canadian website their HP's 3d costs 1999.99. But i didn't check if that was the customized version with lots of goodies or not
No matter what its still going to be pricy -
Honestly I Dont think the newer model will be much higher than the current price. The SB processor does not cost that much, Coolsense tech is basically a software with some minor physical changes, and the GPU is a rebrand for the most part so should not increase price at all. Also the competitors of Envy 17 is coming out to have decent prices which makes me to believe that if HP is smart they will bump the price at most 100$. If envy starts at 1700$ i think most people would just go for alienware with gtx460m and 1080p wled screen. So for the baseline, new SB hp envy refresh did not add much cost to hp so why would they add a lot to consumers?
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
There was quite a pressure for intel to sell the new chips with the same price as the older ones, and judging by the cost of the bulk the prices are actually the same.
The SB equipped notebooks are costing about the same as their older brethren, if the Asus, alienware and hp models are to serve as any basis.
One would think that HP learned from the pricing mistake of the 1st gen envy 15 -
Mr MM that is good news! Thanks. ^^^^

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Didn't the original G73 start at around $1499 last year?

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Indeed! forgot about the G series, but the N series have the same price...
hummm....
lets just hope... a btw the first batch of the SB was sold at a higher price than the arrandale/lynnfield line, the others were sold at the same price, will try to find the source of this tid bit -
I dont know where the assumption comes from about sandy bridge envy being expensive. I mean you can get a pretty good deal on DV7 quad edition, even at microcenter for 1100 after rebate and that is with blu-ray, 1tb drive, BT, widi, and what not.
If anything Sandy Bridge will make things cheaper because they are cheaper to produce at 32nm. I doubt the new upcoming envy's will be any more expensive then the current ones. 6850 is also cheaper to make then 5850. just because they are faster doesn't mean the price will be more. I dont think Dv7 quads are any more expensive then the previous models. -
yes, they will probably be sold at about the same price, but you probably wont be able to get a fat coupon for a long while.
The current discounts and coupons effectively make the current generation much cheaper. -
I hate to be off topic here, but i'd like to ask killa joe for his biased opinion of the hp envy 17 3d laptop. I've been eying it for a few weeks and the price point seems reasonable. How does it perform on games? As laughable as it may be the game I play the most is elder scrolls 4 oblivion. would I be able to max that game out with mods on that laptop? Also, i'm a sucker for 3d movies, how do 3d blu-rays look?
To go slightly back on topic, are there any concerns that you have that would make it worth waiting for and shelling out more money for a newer version? -
Thanks, but I don't know as much about the Envy 17 3D as you might think.... I did have it for a while....and yes, I played a few games on it.....Game performance depends on the game of course. Black Ops was my fav, and playes pretty ok in 3D also. Crysis was tougher, have to lower some specs in game to play well.... I don't own any 3D bluray movies, but played my first Bluray movie a week before returning the laptop. Batman The Dark Knight...wow! It played crisp, sharp, woderful colors, everything pops right at you.
I am hoping that the SB edition will have better cooling, and maybe better performance in games too. Also, excited about the HDMI 1.4 finally we can see 3D movies and games play on our big 3D external TVs! Woot!
KJ -
When will know the details on the SB release? I'm assuming there will be a very large price increase. The way you worded the HDMI comment makes it sound like i'd be able to watch 3d on my tv without it being a 3d tv, is that even possible and if so why wouldn't it be with the current HDMI out. If it played crysis reasonably well i'm sure i'll be more than happy.
-
-
That makes sense. Depending on the difference I may wait. My thaught is if they're already offering discounts what happens when the new inventory comes out? Even bigger discounts? At the point I don't think I could justify the price for the sb models. Sure I would like the newer model, but a penny saved is a penny to spend on something else to enjoy.
-
Since its the 1st time i buy an HP laptop, I am not sure.
Can anyone tell us what usually happens when HP releases a new model ?
The old model disappear or is it further discounted ? -
-
Sorry josh, but you misread what I wrote... Here is a direct quote from above...
"Also, excited about the HDMI 1.4 finally we can see 3D movies and games play on our big 3D external TVs! Woot!"
I'm saying you MUST have a 3D tv in order to watch 3D movies and games.... sorry, but you can't magically see 3D from a non 3D tv... I wish, lol.

LOL, I was gonna say that defies all knowledge of television I have. That's what I get for reading forums on pain killers(after surgery, not for fun).
