    how is your battery life with the old Envy 17 only looking for core i5 as it has switchable graphics (if im not mistaken?)

    I dont think the previous generation of Envy 17's (non sandy bridge) had switchable graphics last I remember. Mostly because the 3rd party board that was used for the switching had a TDP limit, and the HD 5850 was past it's limits.
    I am pretty sure that accurate.
