Hey guys. Can someone tell me if the HP Protectsmart shows only 1 drive as supported or both drives as supported in an Envy 17? You need to go into Control Panel and open the HP 3D Driveguard panel.
For me, I only see one hard drive shown in the configuration panel. It appears as "Notebook hard drive - Supported". The other drive isn't even detected.
I have tried reinstalling drivers (made sure to clean out leftovers) and have tried unplugging and replugging the secondary hard drive, but still only see one drive shown in the configuration panel for the HP 3D Driveguard (Protectsmart).
I'm trying to determine whether only the main drive is supported or if both drives are supported. It's possible that the reason I only see one drive shown is because both of my drives have the same model number and handled by the same SATA controller, thus the driver or configuration panel is unable to differentiate between the drives. Also possible that some units are shipping with a faulty ProtectSmart chip. Another possibility is that ProtectSmart only works on the drives contain the System or OS partition. Again, these are all possibilities because information on ProtectSmart (Driveguard) is severely lacking.
Please reply back with the following:
1. What OS and version (x86/x64)?
2. Are you using the factory default image that the Envy ships with?
3. What version Intel Rapid Storage driver?
4. What version HP ProtectSmart driver?
5. How many hard drives are detected in the HP 3D Driveguard configuration panel?
6. Do you have a System partition (the 100MB one)? If so, is it on the same physical hard drive as your primary partition (OS partition)?
Thank you!![]()
