I'm interested in overclocking the 7850M on the Envy 17. I'm wondering of Crysis is an intensive enough of a game graphically to judge "stability".

Say I am able to play Crysis on high for an hour without any artifacts or such, would that mean the overclock is probably stable for any other game/application?

I would guess that would do it. Crysis 2 seemed to max my 7850m out quite well, and the original would likely do well also.

I personally like running OCCT to test my OC as it has the error checking function. Let it run for a bit to test, then play Crysis for an hour or two. Probably good after that.

As always, monitor temps. My GPU stays in the low 70's @ Stock, and CPU (3610QM) low to mid 80's depending upon the game. Very happy with this machine!

P.S. - I have noticed that MSI Afterburner will only show GPU temp if the 7850m is active before starting MSI Afterburner (being loaded up by some sort of program). GPUZ does not function for me also without the same. I use something like GPU Tool to provide a load for the 7850m before starting these programs, then close out GPU Tool once things are ready to go.
