Ok, so i've had some time to mess with my Envy (love it btw), but i've noticed that a cold boot is a couple of seconds slower than i expected for a Hybrid Drive with a SATA III interface. Starting up programs is such a snap on the other hand though.

Upon looking at Intel Rapid Storage, i saw that the drive is only doing 3Gb/s. This has also been confirmed by another user with the same drive config (Single 750GB drive, hybrid). The drive also gets a lowly 5.9 in the Windows Experience Index rating which is a long 2 points below the rest of the hardware.

Those numbers are correct for a hybrid drive. WEI doesn't take into account the hybrid nature of this drive. Hybrid drives only improve loading times of your most frequently used programs which also improves boot times. WEI measures the performance across the board of the drive, thus the 5.9 score that is equal to most 7200rpm drives. Even at 6GB/s there wouldn't much if any performance increase. Max read/write of this drive is similar to most 7200rpm drives which is around 100MB/s. That comes no where near the 3GB/s max transfer speed that SATA II delivers.

attach pictures with the paperclip (thumbnails) guys!!...PLEASE!! The drives sent on these laptops have firmware: HPM1, while the retail versions are shipping with SM12 (@6Gb/sec). I submitted a tech support question to Seagate asking for the firmware/transfer rate discrepency clarification... I will post if/when I get an answer... and NO, SM12 is not currently available for user update.

    Seagate's worthless reply:
    Dear J.......,

    Thank you for contacting Seagate.

Sorry to hear that you are having issue with firmware on the drive. Since it was oem drive you will need to contact the manufacture of the computer since they put their own firmware of the drive.

If you have any additional questions you may call us during your regional business hours listed below. For your convenience we also have on-line chat assistance.

 well the issue has gotten MORE confusing... I installed my Sandisk Extreme from my dv7 as disk 1 (or 2 depending as your point of reference) and it TOO is only registering 3G/s !!! and it worked as expected (i.e., 6GB/s) in my Sandy Bridge dv7t ? ?
