Hello everyone!
I just got my Envy laptop! Yet there is a problem![]()
Whenever i try to run my Solidworks 2011 and RapidForm XOR they both crash right after starting. I believe there is a problem with the video drivers or something. I dont believe the problem is the software's, as same installs discs have been tested on my old HP Elitebook 8540w and there is no problem at all.
I honestly have tried changing the ATI drivers to like 5 different ones.
I even installed and tried Crysis 2 at MAX settings possible and it runs just fine and pretty fast, no problems at all!
Another thing i have noticed is that when i change using Perfomance video (ATI) to Power saving video (Intel) the screen goes black and stays like that.
After messing around with drivers and whatnot i am now restoring the laptop to factory settings using the CDs. After this is done i will just go and install my Solidworks and Rapidform and try again. Maybe i messed up something upgrading the drivers.
Oh and what is the safest way to upgrade the laptops drivers?? Does it have an application that will download and install all the new drivers?
Thanks,
Daniel Preugschat

You'll probably have to check with the company regarding the crashes. They probably have logs stored somewhere that tells you why the crash occurred. The Windows system log might tell you were the crash occurred too, but not necessarily why.
You can use the HP Support Assistant to download the appropriate drivers to your laptop. After a factory restore, this software should be available in your start menu. It will probably update itself to the latest version before allowing you to apply updates. The update channel lags what is posted on the HP website, so you'll need to manually apply drivers from the website if you insist on having the most up to date supported software. -
Thanks for the reply.
I found what was giving me all this problems hah!
I installed an application called "Snow transformation Pack" all this does is change the looks (theme) of you interface. It also install and replaces some system DLL. After the Factory reset i installed my work applicaitons and they worked fine!! After installing this snow transformation pack same problems again.. So there you go. Unistalled and deleted that pack everything is just fine.
Thanks! -
Cool, though you could have also tried disabling themes for the application; assuming if you wanted to maintain it. I like the theme that shipped with my Envy. I disabled it at first but then it looked like every other win7 install so I added it back. Adobe Reader doesn't look nice but its one of the few apps that fit that category.
