Just wondering a couple things about the beats edition as compared to the envy 15 version.
1. What reason is there for the 800 dollar difference in price other than the beats headphones?
and
2.Does the back of the case only have the beats logo on it or is there any type of laser etching like on the original envy.

its just a black case, headphonesand like an external amp for them.

$800 price difference??? serious?
will i like the clean look of the beats and black as well. I really dont like the greyish cream color and those laser made lining.
if you configure online it's cheaper than the one in store. I personally would configure it with i5 and wouldnt stuff the quad core into this machine (just too hot)
Im eyeing on Sony Z, Envy, and Lenovo X301 (hopefully they release the new updated version soon) -
If you have the opportunity ,just buy it, I think it worths it
-
well I've found that it's a reasonable price if I go for the i5 processor with beats, but I'm afraid of a performance drop especially since I could get a regular envy with more ram and a better processor for the same price.

Whats so special about beats?
Ive been seeing it a lot in movies lately.. the marketing department mustve dropped a load a cash. -
You get a mediocre pair of headphones (worth 50 bucks at best, retails for hundreds though), a decent DJ software and the nice black finish. honestly. between the two I like the black finish better than the default gunmetal because of the gaudy etching but I wouldn't play the difference. Way to friggen high.
Oh one other difference.
On your keyboard, instead of a regular letter "B" the Beats edition uses the Beats logo. Yeah.... awesome right? -

Are the interior guts the same as the regular Envy 15?
An AMAZON review claimed its actually cooler with the black magnesium. Thoughts? -
Also, did the Beats Edition get a 2nd gen release?

Come back when you have listened to some Sennheiser HD 650's, then we'll talk. -

It's 90% marketing. Yeah the headphones are 'good' but there are plenty of great sets of headphones out there for less than this. You pay a lot more for the style.
I like the exterior case appearance as well, but I wouldn't pay more for it.
I wouldn't tell you not to buy one if you love it and have the money. But you should ask yourself what it is you're comfortable paying for: a laptop computer, a fashion statement, or some of each?
Getting into 'are the headphones good/better than XYZ headphones' is sort of beside the point -- I'm sure they're quite good. But not $800 worth of good. HP knows that there is a market segment that will spend a huge amount of cash on stuff like this and they want to tap into it. -
However, I hear that heat is not an issue with the i5 models... -
Beats headphones are garbage for the price, though the white ones look sick.
I would just get the normal Envy 15, the black looks awesome, but I wouldn't pay $800 for it. -

I have a Beats and love the thing, but I had a $450 coupon plus I got $160 off later too. Sold the headphones for $250. It looks nicer than the standard Envy 15 (don't like the pattern, if it was a solid aluminum color I'd be happy). Also, its a very high quality paint job on the casing. I get lots of oohs and ahs with it.
Then again, if money is tight, it performs no better or worse than the standard edition. -
to any interested parties: before you spend $300 on these (overrated, overpriced) headphones do yourself a favor and spend some time at head-fi.org
