I wanted to get next Envy 15 refresh, but that wont happen now with it totally gone from HP's lineup. Next powerful notebook in HP's lineup I found is dv6t Quad edition. I was not able to find any reviews of this notebook. If you have link for any review, or know of any issues with this notebook, please share. Also anyone knows if this notebook has WiDi?

What is important for me in a notebook is that its a good entertainment notebook with a good keyboard, excellent screen with good colors (matte if possible), 1080p, loud rich audio/speakers, powerful GPU, good trackpad, runs cool and quiet.

Though I would have been interested in Envy 15's refresh model, above given dv6t configuration easily bests the current envy 15 notebooks available anywhere. I really need 1080p res, and the last gen envy 15 doesnt have that.

Actually they do have 1080p but it will be more expensive if you manege to find a envy 15 3200. In the other hand you can buy the envy 17 3270nr refurbished for 977.00 here Refurb HP Envy 17 3270NR 2 30 3 30GHz i7 3610QM 8GB 750GB FHD 1080p Blu Ray | eBay
Remember refurbished doesn't mean is used, I think it may be better since is suppose to be in perfect condition. Mine arrives this thursday i will make an unboxing and post it so you can see the conditions. 17" is not that big and with 4-6 hours with this one is quite good.

I'm curious about a couple of things as I'd like to get this laptop as well. BTW, it does seem that HP already made some new configuration options since it first came out. There are now more hard drive options and numerous software choices as add-ons.

Here are my questions for those that own it already or might have the knowledge to answer:

    1. It looks like the i7-3630 is available, which as said before is an upgrade on the base processor, but does anyone know when the i7-3820 replacement (I assume in would be a 3830) might be offered?
    2. Any idea if they'll offer a SSD option as they did on the last dv6t Quad (non-'envy') model?
    3. The NVIDIA GT 650M with 2GB is a great video card, any idea when the next generation will be available? Like any of the GTX models.

    my biggest question:

    4. Why did they get rid of the mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache ?

And lastly, should I really upgrade a Windows 7 laptop to Windows 8 or am I going to hate it and be totally lost with the interface? Does it have any options to revert to at least a Windows 7-like style much like you could do in the past when upgrading Windows?

I would recommend the 7200RPM Hybrid drive, it will play a lot better with the i7.
Also make sure the Office 2010 you are buying is compatible with the free upgrade offer to 2013 version, otherwise its better to just get the PC without Office 2010 and get the 2013 when is out.

Interesting, not sure why the mSSD option is "None" right now, I'm guessing it might just be supplies but if not that their possibly pushing for people to get the Hybrid drive, which I personally think is the best way to spend +$50.

As far as Windows 8, I'm not adjusting too well myself and went back to Windows 7. I feel if you're younger and more used to the whole big tiles and icons on tablets you're learning curve and adjustment will be faster or you will even prefer it.

    A few suggestions from me:

    * Reduce the RAM to the minimum you can get. If you want 16GB, you can get it as inexpensively as $65 w/free shipping from NewEgg:
    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C11D-16GSQ (I own this RAM in my Envy 17 and have had zero issues with it)
    * If you're going to go single drive, get the hybrid drive as it's the fastest single non-SSD solution you can get.

I think that from what someone else said about the Envy dv6t 7200 series, there's no mSATA option though there still is the mSATA slot available. The mSATA option from HP would be expensive and you can find 64GB mSATA drives pretty inexpensively if you want a mSATA cache. If you go hybrid drive, it may be a moot point to cache the hybrid drive with a mSATA drive.
