I had to send my Envy 15 away to HP for a new motherboard (wouldn't recoginze the 16gb of ram installed) and it just died one day, most likely due to heat.

My question is can I up(down)grade the first gen ENvy 15 to an i7 620M i've got a spare one laying around, it should help in the heat department, has anyone done this or are there any problems with something like this.

I doubt it. The i7 620M has an integrated graphics so I don't think the mobo will be able to handle it. I was considering downgrading to an i5 series when I had the 720qm and thats what I was told.
