    Upon initial start up, screen appears with following options;
    F1 or F10 (setup) only.

    If message F1 is chosen, Error 104 (shown above) appears and cannot access XP operating system.
    If F10 is chosen, am unaware of option to uninstall device from Set up.
    Several attempts to reboot results in same.

    Did you install a third party wireles card into the system. HP systems can only use HP approved wifi cards. If you installed a different card then you will receive that message until you remove the card from the laptop.

    I don't know about the hardware , some technician came and installed.

    How to check whether it is a third party wifi card or not?

    Could you tell me other possible causes

    I'll guess that the technician replaced what he thought was a bad Intel 802.11g WiFi card with another Intel card that wasn't supplied by HP and didn't bother to test his handiwork. HP has a whitelist in the BIOS that only allows a few cards that have been tested with that specific notebook series, ostensibly because the FCC made them do it even though no one else does. It has been a source of much frustration. Anyhow, time to talk to that technician again.

    That is the only cause. You need a WiFi card that's approved for your notebook. In the meantime you could remove the card (remove the battery first) and use Ethernet to get the notebook to boot.
