    hi there,
I had 2.5gb (1x2GB + 1x512MB) ram to my system dv6218tx. I installed 4gb (2x2gb) ddr-667 ram by changing 512 MB. From that i can not successfully upto my vista operating system. It stop and show blue screen. Then i tried to install vista again by using recovery disk, and after starting installation it show msahi.sys file error and show PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA.

after that i check microsft and they send me a patch, which is not working for my machine.
I tried t install windows 2008 server , got acpi.sys error and then xp, got some error.

At last i went back to my old 2.5GB ram.

Does any of you know the probable solution?
    Please help me....

sorry for this long story. anyway, thanks in advance,,,
    cheers

You may want to download and run MemTest86+ on that RAM...it is possible you have faulty sticks.

Try running memtest86+ first to see if the RAM modules are faulty. Also have you tried updating your BIOS? I believe the earlier models of dv6000 had to do a BIOS update for it to read 4gb

Are the RAM different brands by any chance?

Well, i tryed memtest86+, for my old and new rams, it got shutdown after few test, as i think for heat.

but, otherwise both 2gb stick work fine individually. like, right now i'm using my new 2gb stick and work fine.

by the way, i forgot to tell you that bios detect 3.xx gb ram.

    thansk

It really does sound like faulty RAM to me. I have had similar issues with Desktops but not with my HP notebook.

No way should MemTest86+ cause your notebook to overheat. Something's wrong. I see that you have an Intel C2D based notebook, which I don't think got the BIOS fix that runs the fan constantly like the AMD notebooks did... but you should still flash in the latest BIOS from a stable RAM configuration (even if it's just a single SODIMM installed). It might make a difference.

Check your system temps with HWMonitor too while you're at it.

BIOS should detect it as 40xxMB of RAM. Vista32 will only detect it as 3.xxMB RAM

Update your BIOS, it might give more support for RAM. Im using 2x2gb 667 kingston aswell with no problem. I actually got abit of errors from memtest86+ but i just ignored it as its been working out great

Thanks guys, It was the bios issue.. Now windows working fine. But funny thing is, BIOS detect sharp 4GB RAM but vista business show me 3GB sharp, Even after installing XP PRO sp2, that also show me 3GB sharp.

Can anyone give me idea reason behind that? (normally it should show 3.xx gb as i recon)

    thanks again for everybodys help

    cheers

Yeah i had a feeling it was BIOS all along.

BIOS will show you the total memory thats installed. Your 32bit operating system is only able to address a max of 3gb of memory so it will only show that much. You will need 64bit to use and see all 4gb's
