Greetings,
My name is Janice. I just recently purchased an hp pavillion laptop. Model DV7 1135 from best buy.
I am currently getting 2 wierd message. First one is from the start button over in the left corner. When I hit that i also get a pop up stating that "it could not show all my startup programs and that I need to change the resolution". I am on a 17 inch I think my resolution is where it needs to be at so I don't know what the issue is. Any idea?
Second, when I try to do a defragement. The first step it does is analyze disc. Then I hit the defragement now button. Within a few mins I would get a message saying " Your file system performance can be improve." Then I try to defrage one more time and still get that message.... so basically that messsage is not going away.
can someone help me? I have contacted HP support and they are no help. I've contacted them about 4 times.![]()
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

(this is the startup one) Copy and paste the link. I put it in word. I don't know how to do it any other way.

This is the defragement screen shot.
I'm sorry I put a space in between won't allow me to post links. I don't have aenough posts. -
First screen shot.
1. Taskbar properties, reduce the number of stored programs or choose small icons.
2. On the defrag issue, is there enough space for the program to run? It requires around 10-12 % free space if memory serves.Attached Files:

Try this Vista menu it's much cooler

Most of the features are show off and give the impression of utility. My opinion. -
How would I check to see if there is enough memory. To be honest, I don't have anything on my laptop. I don't download anything or store any pictures/musics, etc.
Wishmaker, thanks for the first one.. worked wonderfully, I couldn't figure that one out LOL. -
On the first one, you are welcome. It took a while to configure my Start Menu the way I wanted and those little options in there helped.
The second one...still working on it.

IMO it's much faster finding things, from it you can get to near every thing on your computer without having to say " select user" then when it opens~ open the file and then whats in that file. You do so from the menu!

Where did you get that smiley from? -
I have no idea why the defrag message appears. There must be a problem with the service.
-
So does this mean, I will never be able to defrag again? That message keeps popping up! -
Use another software to defrag. I uploaded something for you.

Your defrag problem can also be caused by errors on your hard drive. I would suggest you run a chkdsk on your drive. For convenience I have included a link with info on how to run a chkdsk: Start with method 1, that may be all you need.

P.S. Don't be concerned that the link indicates vistax64, not relevant. -

ok. so since you mentioned about the schedule defrag. I had that turned off. I went to turn it back on and now it's actually defraging. It's not doing what it use to do, which was analysing and then coming back with that error message EVERY time.
The thing is that I don't want defrag to run on a schedule. It annoys me so I had to turn it off. I guess I will leave it on since this is the only way it will work.. how freaking pathethic.
Thanks! -
Thanks everyone for helping me I really appreciate it. You were more helpful than hp support.
Wishmaker, I really appreciate your help along the way. You get a virtual starbucks coffee LOL -

Now that you're up to 15 posts you can post a link to a pic of the error.
