Well I have the dv2000 pavilion style notebook and i recently started using the ethernet port on it when i came to college. I used to always use wireless at home. So any way, I called HP telling them about my broken port and they told me that I would have to pay for. Furious at the moment I hung up without realizing what part I need to replace.

So the question is. Is the ethernet port attached to the wireless card? and am i going to need to buy a new wireless card? Any help would be appreciated especially links to installation techniques and help.

    Thanks a lot
    Steve

If you're laptop is still under warranty they should repair it if "you" didn't break it. If you don't feel comfortable playing around with the inside components of your laptop you could just buy an ethernet card or an USB ethernet adaptor.

no i feel completly comfortable opening my laptop. I build motors and i consider that a little more complex than one of these. Plus i built my desktop PC that is at home.

Its under warrenty, but they said that I broke it and that the port shouldnt break.

The ethernet port is soldered into the system board. If your still under warranty then they will have to fix it.

If not, then i suggest you get an xpress card ethernet adapter or USB ethernet

There is one more solution, QuickDock.

It replicates all the ports in your notebook for desktop use.

Is the actual port broken or is the ethernet card dead? Check your device manager.
